Hidden Gems: Games With Less Than 1,000 Reviews That Are Worth Playing
Hey everyone,

I’ve been on the lookout for underrated games that have flown under the radar, games that might not have millions of reviews but are still enjoyable enough to complete. I’m not necessarily looking for games with endless replayability or mind-blowing mechanics—just ones that were fun and worth my time.

Here’s a list of some hidden gems I’ve enjoyed that have fewer than 1,000 reviews. Would love to hear your recommendations as well!

Void Sols (Free demo available)
Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2736690/Void_Sols/
Void Sols is a minimalist action-adventure game where you play as a defiant triangle battling against the tyranny of shapes with more vertices. The game’s execution is a surprisingly thoughtful blend of tight mechanics, creative level design, and compelling exploration.

The Tarnishing of Juxtia
Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1428710/The_Tarnishing_of_Juxtia/
Overall, Tarnishing of Juxtia is an above-average game with engaging combat but is marred by pacing issues and uninspired equipment progression. While it may not become a favorite, it provides a solid, if occasionally frustrating, experience for fans of the genre.

There Is No Light: Enhanced Edition
Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1132980/There_Is_No_Light_Enhanced_Edition/
A flawed gem with standout visuals and combat, but pacing and narrative issues may dim its appeal for some players.

Deepening Fire
Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1642790/Deepening_Fire/
Deepening Fire has a unique blend of influences with visuals reminiscent of Hollow Knight and a decaying, dark fantasy world that calls to mind Dark Souls. This game has good gameplay overall, but the final fights really frustrated me however.

Would love to hear about more games like these—stuff that you enjoyed even though it didn’t hit the mainstream. Anything under 1,000 reviews is fair game! Let me know what you’ve been playing that fits the bill.

Cheers!

Made by the same people who made the Ys series. There are two games on this series found on steam. Interesting mechaninc you have to switch between the characters. One only uses magic, and the other one only uses melee attacks.

This the first of 2 games found on steam. The other one is 3d. Even though the second game came first to steam, this is the official order of the games, as this one is the older one.

Apparently this was a popular series over seas, but never hit very much over here. I find this as a hidden gem with less than 1000 reviews. It is basically a classic rpg.

Also, one interesting mechanic is you level up eating food, not defeating monster.

A hard roguelike dungeon with interestingly enough multiplayer functions. They maybe disabled now as i could not test them, but the game has roguelike functions and even likened to mystery dungeon games. Even has a permadeath mode you can open later in the game.

The best game on this collection is CRYSTALIS. A awesome classic rpg that game out on the NES back in the day. A great look at a historical old game.
The Drakensang series. Basically a clone of the old isometric birds eye view rpgs like baldur's gate 1 and 2.

There are three games officially in the series with spinoffs also found on steam. Based on the pen and paper game DARK EYE.

The spiderweb Software games. There are quite a few of these games. I played most of them even before CD-ROM even existed. I played these games on 3 1/2 inch floppies all back in the day. You can find alot of their games on steam, and alot of them actually are under the radar on steam:

These are also isometric style birds eye view rpg's, but hardcore ones. If you really love classic rpgs, make sure to check these ones out. BE AWARE, they are hardcore rpgs, where you can only save in certain spots. You can die from going hungry, and even from beestings.

If your lucky, you can find the easter egg spider cave with friendly spiders working on video games.

I read this game is a great rpg. I have not played it yet, and read there are game breaking bugs, so this might be why it flew under the radar. Anyways, if you can get it to play, it is supposed good with multiple classes and races you can play as.

A watered down version of the METAL MAX game on steam. Not as good as the PS4 game sadly. They removed some scenes and some other things, but is a decent rpg that features tanks and customizable tanks and vehicles in a post apocalyptic world.

There is also a spinoff game about dogs also from the same series.

NOTE: To date, the best metal max game i played was on ps2 called metal saga. If you want to try a metal max game, try that one.

154 reviews, the combat is fun and unique, you don't level up at all or have a party, but you keep collecting items throughout the game which can be used in combat. You can use multiple items per round, and as you get more items, more ways to combo them together are possible.

66 reviews, it's a silly puzzle-based murder mystery that doesn't take itself seriously. And all the voices are by one guy.

260 reviews, the combat is a ripoff of Final Fantasy 13, but I think they actually made improvements like letting you switch characters during battle instead of being stuck using just the main character. The translation isn't very good, but it didn't ruin the experience.

426 reviews, people are often averse to RPG Maker games but this one was really good. I played through it several times with different party compositions (you create your own party like Final Fantasy 1), and the achievement challenges were fun.
