As I think most people may be aware of the integration of bots on social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit to an extent) and their appearance as real people, I am interested to know the Steam community’s thoughts on the discussions/posts/reviews/comments on the platform. Are there more bots posting content in these forums than real people?

Some of the topics really throw me for a loop. I know there’s a lot of award farming and trolling, but I find it hard to believe that humans are actually posting the majority of content on Steam these days

Jsut because you have a new avenue for your conspiracy theory, it doesn't mean it's true. While it does seem like the amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grew over the years (with indeoendantbresearchnsupporting that thesis), thats been going on for way longer, than the explosion of LLMs. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ has been existing in certain amounts before LLMs exploded in public perception and it's about the same after said explosion.

Pro tip: if you observe coincidence and want to interpret causality try better!

I've not seen evidence of bots posting on the main forums at all.

Simply because bots are fairly easy to detect as their grammar is often wonky and the content of what they post is pretty damned empty and meaningless.


The thing to remember is this - NEVER make the mistake of doing what others do. That of seeing soem new thing come up and then misapplying that to something you don;t like.

For example, you see a post that's maybe from a non-English speaker and it looks a bit wonky and you automattically jump to "must be a bot".

That's a fairly common logical fallacy, as you're assuming something without evidence. Plenty of people do that nowadays with things like "woke". Anything that either has a strong woman lead, or is something that makes them feel uncomfortable, oh no it's woke.

IOf course that's an extreme example, but you get the point.

in his defense, even when a profile is set to friends only, it places the text, "this profile is private" under the profile pick.


People are weary of friends only / private profiles. Unfortunately they are common settings for trolls and alt account users
