is persona 5 a sequel?
i need help, i was recommended to play persona 5 due to its similarities to danganronpa. i am curious if i should start the whole series by chronological order, or if its okay to play persona 5 and understand the plot even if i haven’t played the former games. also, i would like to know if persona 5 is the only game in the series with similarities to danganronpa or if the whole series has them.
thank uuu

Technically, Persona 3 rebooted the entire series because Persona 2 screwed everything up in terms of the timeline(We're talking about Star Trek levels of screwing up the space-time continuum), but aside from some slight nods(Like a Rise Kujikawa poster), there is nothing you need to know from 4 in order to understand 5 and nothing from 3 as far as I know even shows up or is referenced in 5.

Persona 1 and 2 both share a story. The next mainlines have no relations between them besides references so feel free to play Persona 5 anytime.
As others said enjoy them in any order want. If the other series matters to you then maybe give this a read check the top comment.

Sadly, the earliest persona you can play on steam is 3. In the future i hope they really put the first 2 on steam. I really liked persona 2 innocent sin. It was split into 2 halves on the old systems btw for persona 2. I still got my ps1 version of innocent sin.

Yes, it's okay to play Persona 5 without playing the other games in the series.

Sorry. Can't answer this.
It's an indirect sequel. It takes place after the previous games but doesn't continue their story.
If you have a PlayStation Vita, I'd recommend starting at the beginning with Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, the PlayStation Portable remake of Revelations: Persona, the first game in the series; as personally I think the Persona games dropped off after Persona 3 Portable (the best one IMO) except for Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth.

First one I played was Persona 3, then 4, and then 5.
All of them have the same story where you SPOILER and then SPOILER happens where it SPOILER SPOILER at SPOILER. ;P
I will probably not buy any more of their Persona games if they don't stop re-skinning the same story, in my opinion that is.

they all in the same universe but not correlated to one another, you can play in any order. doesn't matter. if you plan to play the other series beside 5, never touch P3R, just install pcsx2 and emulate it
