Yes, it's okay to play Persona 5 without playing the other games in the series.

If you have a PlayStation Vita, I'd recommend starting at the beginning with Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, the PlayStation Portable remake of Revelations: Persona, the first game in the series; as personally I think the Persona games dropped off after Persona 3 Portable (the best one IMO) except for Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth.
All of them have the same story where you SPOILER and then SPOILER happens where it SPOILER SPOILER at SPOILER. ;P
I will probably not buy any more of their Persona games if they don't stop re-skinning the same story, in my opinion that is.
