Why are forums so hostile?
First and foremost I'm not claiming to have any solutions i'm just saying.

It's also funny how quickly people become hostile on these forums instead of being any form of constructive. What kind of community are we if we treat fellow gamers like trash. All gamers from all walks of life should be able to sit down and "nerd out" without fearing it will turn into an elitest e-peen contest.
From what I've read on this simple post (If you must know It was a PoE post about drops) about someone's frustration with drop rates. It's clear that not everyone know exactly what they are talking about. Are there no websites that have clear information on how to magic find? If there is a website why isn't it being spread around the community?
These are the questions that really matter. Not why is this not easier, or why are you so dumb. If gamers want to be taken seriously we NEED to stop behaving like children. Stop complaining about mechanics you could easily take the time to research. If you really want to play a game become more educated about it. Stop looking for handouts.
It's coming close to impossible to find a forum that doesn't have someone getting flamed for their lack of knowledge. What kind of message does it send the world at large?
tl;dr
Be a better gamer by helping struggling players. Flaming just makes you look like an idiot.

Edited for anti wall of text.

I have run into some people who acted rudely or plain mean. I have been dissappointed in the Steam community at times and as an extension I'm really bothered by the whole "PC Master Race" stuff. Can't we just be gamers with our preferences?

Your post is confusing and I'm not even sure who it's aimed at, at first you say stop complaining about mechanics you could take time to research, become more educated about the game and then finish with this:

It's coming close to impossible to find a forum that doesn't have someone getting flamed for their lack of knowledge.

It wasn't meant to make complete sense it was written in haste after lack of sleep. It's more of a rant. I just wanted to point out some of the flaws that I believe to bigger than the ones in the games people post about.

My thoughts exactly.

I run a community where we do not have these issues. We support a family environment and support multiple games across all platforms. If you are truely looking for a friendly place to go, feel free to check us out. Link is in my profile or contact me for more information.

The internet is full of people, idiots are everywhere, also good guys. It's a free world, so the only thing you can do is avoid the first and stick to the second ones. I'd say find yourself some groups of respectful people and just have fun.

Well i think its easy why.. its public forum any one can put what ever they want
And in the end i think the amount of good guys (Greg) are bigger then the bad on Steam

Also if you talk abut trolls and so on...
I my self can say i do not think i was always the most good guy.. most of all when i seen the same post over and over again.. and the guy did not take the time to search and see if someone else sayed it all ready in the last 20 minutes...

But in most cases i do not think i seen much blaming some one for not knowing something... most of the time i seen more helpers that want to help then any thing else.. but if you really want only to find the good guys i think the way that Faulcun suggested is the best.. go to a privet forums of a group of some kind... or even make your own one.. and pick in only who you find good..
And if someone is bad he gets kicked out.. that is something you cant do on forums like these.. as in the end there some what more public

I think perhaps people should be less obsessed about games at times, and realize that the community does need attention. Some people perceive troublemakers to be ignorant people. When in fact, that is a form of ignorance also. I've run into people in real life with this problem too. And I've been "that person" before.

This is most likely the short version of what you are trying to say, OP, but I stand corrected on occasion

I just posted here because I know there is a good amount of traffic on Steam. As well as their forums. I just love video games and think that even though it is a respected thing (at a loss for words sorry). It could be more. I want gamers as a whole to be just as respected. I have a big picture in mind I currently just lack the means due to limited time to take the measures needed.
Responsibilities outside of the games obviously we all have them.

Perhaps you should start a group with these standards? I would join, that's for sure. People love to support a cause, and I think this is certainly a cut above some others out there

I will only have the spare time fo a few months as i will be working full time and going to school full time. I also lack the technical knowledge to set up a website. As well as poverty level problems.

I would love to set up a community or maybe branch out of an already formed structure.

Who do you think your are coming in here with that attitude? Also, I hate your FACE!Just kidding :diplomacy:
Hippityd Apr 15, 2014 @ 10:00pm
The internet is a place for people who would otherwise get there ass kicked badly on a daily basis if they said what they say online in real life. It is the only place they can do it because irl it is not happening nor would they have the balls to say it to someones face. So next time you see someone who is a know it all and degrades anything/everything feel bad for the real life pathetic person they are.
