Are you able to use a Visa Debit card on the steam marketplace?
Hey guys, I recently got my Visa Debit Card, as its called here in Austalia, its basically the EFTPOS system really. Anyway I was wondering if it is possible to use a debit card on the Steam community market to make purchases for items in games, eg. Unusual Hats in Team Fortress 2. I'm guessing not but I'd like to make double sure about this.

No, the Community Market only accepts Steam Wallet funds. Can you use the card to purchase funds though Steam?

I was thinking that, and bought myself S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat without a hitch so, I have no clue why I can't buy anything on the market. I did add the funds and then tried to purchase a Name Tag for TF2 and it wouldn't let me.

Ah, it may be this then (I do apologize, I should have mentioned this in my first post):

Steam Support > Trading and Market Restrictions

Newly added payment method

Only items and games that are purchased with trusted payment methods can be traded immediately; otherwise there is a 7 day cool down before they can be traded. The Steam Community Market will also be unavailable during the cooldown. Any payment method that has been used on the account more than 7 days ago is considered trusted.

New payment methods restrict the account from using the market for 7 days to verify then.

This is to avoid someone using a stolen/fake card to buy from other players on the market, then have a charge back. issued by the card company.

-Ninja'd by a bus. :-P

EDIT: I just re-read the conditions, I just have to wait a week for the cooldown. Ok thanks to Spawn of Totoro and WhereisBusmin. Appreciate it :D

Alright guys, I'm a little confused here, and I'm curious about this. So let me get it straight: I have to 1. Buy a game on steam with a new method (say, debit card). 2. Wait 7 days until that method is "trusted" on my steam account. 3. Now I can buy anything on the steam market with my new method?

After 7 days, the new payment method restriction will be lifted, but the card will not be trusted, so you will get the same 7 day restriction the next time you use the card, until you verify it.

Yes, they do, and the CVV(2) and expiration date are required to purchase from Steam. You cannot use a debit directly with Steam, you will need to fund another payment method like PayPal and use that to purchase from Steam.

If you are purchasing in the client, try in the browser, and vice versa. Disable any VPNs or proxies. Try purchasing in big picture mode. If you still cannot purchase, register a support account and open a ticket.

Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company.

Note that in some cases, your credit card company may put a 'hold' on funds in your account, but you will not be charged. After correcting any errors in the information displayed below, please try your purchase again.

I don't think Steam accepts debit cards. I've checked the Subscriber agreement and it doesn't say a thing about debit cards
