A Beginner's Point & Click Game
Recently I have decided I wanted to try out an interesting genre known as point-and-click adventure games. However, knowing most of these games have incredibly cryptic puzzles, I began to wonder what games would be a good place to start?

Rest assured that point-and-click games are not as intimidating as they might seem. :dealwithit:

Try The Longest Journey demo to see if you like it. I tried thinking I'd hate the game, but fell in love with it and I consider TLJ one of the best games I've ever played (although there are some cryptic puzzles, like the infamous rubber ducky, but nothing like the inverted alphabet in King's Quest). Syberia might be a good choice too and it's rather constantly on sale.

Deponia is a great start, but wait until it's on sale. You can get the originals for like $1.99 each, the Complete for around $5-6. Detective Grimoire is a decent short one that's meant more to play with (or be played by) a younger audience (tweens), but is interesting enough and fairly simple.

Pretty much anything by telltale is simple

^ Also good, also go on sale frequently. Blackwell is a series too, if you wind up liking it.

Best and easiest point and click game ever.

WadgetEye Games have some astonishing titles on their books and some of the best in the genre. These three are fantastic titles along with Resonance and Primordia. The Shivah is a good starting game - it's short but a great introduction to the complex genre.

It's great for beginners since your char have a sidekick bot giving a lot of hints every puzzle.

And yeah, for me atleast, most games of the genre are hard as hell without a guide. I personally like to progress without help before getting stuck for more than 20 minutes huhahuaha. Don't feel bad about using guides if being stuck gets boring...

The Wolf Among Us is a great TellTale game. Simple but not boring story line.
If you're looking for something old, I would recommend games by Lucas Arts, but avoid Sierra games at all costs.

It's not that Sierra's Adventure Games are bad (They invented the genre), but they have a LOT of "Unwinneable States" which means that it is very easy to reach a point where you can no longer progress (hence unwinneable) without telling you until you have progressed several hours into the game after you have made the "mistake" and sometimes it doesn't tell you where you've gone wrong at all. Basically a blatant FU to the player and something that was very common in adventure games. But Lucas Arts was known for not having them.
