Steam China
As an avid gamer in China, the Steam China launch is a huge annoyance to me. The government requesting all games being checked before launch, Valve partnering with Perfect Worlds, and the end result is a barely functioning “platform” with ONLY 41!!!!!!!!! Games! Adding to the insult is the community features is completely absent, with the only interaction between players seem to be the individual reviews of each games.
So, will the regular Steam also get banned or will it keep functioning and be accessible?

Parts of regular steam is already banned in China but in either case it would be up to the government in that region to do that if they so wish

This could be the only method steam could be available in the region eventually if they didn't do this as China has a history of banning outside competition / influences for censorship and control of media.

Community features is absent because it's banned in China since 2017 as per this links.

More games will be added on how fast the approval agency works.

Ask your government what is and isn't allowed.

Simple thing is you're only ever going to get things which your government has the final say so on. There is NO way round this.

So if you're thinking about certain features like online communities, access to "unauthorized" games and so on, you're forever going to be out of luck.

yeah I'm accessing this from China via VPN, but I just have to hope downloads and stuff don't need to be with VPN enabled

Don't get your hopes up. The current course of the Chinese government doesn't look like they're going to let you (no you personally, your whole nation) use non-Chinese media, services & whatnot freely.

Hey, at least you're not confusing everyone by claiming to live in the states but being barely able to converse in English, I hate such people. You think you can talk with them but no...

Absolutely! Had you not said you're from China, I'd never have known.

If you don't like steam complying with your local laws then work to change them or move to a different country.

This is the solution. Get in line with the system, or move into another one. There is no other possibility here.
