Nearly all forums allow users to view another users post history. This is not some magical 'feature' Steam invented.
Well, it really depends on your approach. If you don't want someone else seeing what your posts are, then make them selective and somewhat vague, until you can find a way to carry it into a private conversation. Fourms should be about people being helpful, considering these particular forums, but it seems more so or a place on venting and grief, with a rare side of people asking for assistance or to team up. So, yeah. Basically if you want to talk about something a bit more sensitive or whatever, best to keep it private, because post history will generally, always be public.
What do you expect? It's a common feature with forum software, your posts are public anyway and if someone needs to stalk you, there is still Google & Co. You might find it shocking that moderators can even see deleted posts and edit history.
It's also a handy feature to gauge if someone is just really stupid or a troll.
