A game that will help teach you to drive?

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a game that could help to teach you to drive, such as following the rode code, parking, changing gears with a manual gearbox, stopping at the lights, random bad drivers, indicating, driving in different weather conditions like rain and snow, driver distraction and anything else that could help to simulate driving in real life. I've seen similar threads with people saying that you should learn to drive in a car in real life but i am a tad worried about how much the fuel will cost and if I accedently hit someone and have to pay for repairs.

edit, i just had a thought, you could get mods or add ons for each country's road laws etc...

euro truck similator, you drive a truck, wich is hard but if you plan on driving a car, it will be soooo easy after being able to drive a 53ft van. you should play with a good steering wheel too. but why do you need to play a game to learn how to drive, seriously its not hard at all to drive

i dunno about him but im thinking of a legit licensing game. a proper sim for learning to drive.

Yeah I havent found it hard yet but then I havent been on public roads yet either and I have no idea what to do if someone else does somthing stupid or how to get out of a skid when its raining.

If there isnt one already i think there does need to be one, even if its goverment funded as it might help get accedent numbers down a tad.

i think its a brilliant idea mate, the tech is there in abundance why not apply it nicely. like a rosetta stone for driving, you get the country which applies to you. im a bit worried it might put traditional driving instructors out of work though.

like if you didnt have the set up you could go to your local community centre or library and rent an hour, but cheaper and without any risk to material or person. then when you hit a certain grade your out in the real car for some kind of prliminary driving test, then you brush up and et voila.

Normally you learn to drive in a school, THEN you get a license.
And then you drive carefully.

Much of driving is done unconciously, its whats coined muscle memory. When you walk, your not thinking how far each foot step is, you're just walking. So is it for most of driving. You're not choosing to change gear, you do so naturally.

As such a Driving simulator to mimic real world driving would be difficult.
Hardware must give a haptic feedback for biting point of the clutch, the vibration of the engine and so on.

What would be useful is a simulator to help with situational awareness, noticing children playing near parked cars, water on the road and so on. But again they're of limited use.

Any game can teach you driving as good as it can teach you firing a gun ... that is not at all.

While you can learn the theory and the basic functionalities, praxis is a completely different thing. One of the most important things in driving is to look over your shoulder before taking a turn (look for pedestrians, cyclists, ...) and nothing can teach you the motion better than actually doing it over and over and over everytime you need too. No game can teach you how physics affect your cars handling.
Also each car is different and you need to know where the knobs and levers are you frequently need. For example my Japanese make has the light controls on the lever for the wipers while my GFs German make has a dial on the left hand side.

That's why you have practical lessons.

Yep that can not be understated. The more hours you get in driving and just engraining those neural pathways the better.

Also the feel for your car. Estimating width and length and relate it towards the space you have. Most modern cars do a terrible job at giving you any feel of overview (Seriously, who thinks that a rear window the size of your freaking grill is a good idea?!) and that's also what makes parking what it is.
I still remember a parking job from driving school - driver side, pendicular to the lane (one car width) in reverse. Suddenly me teacher slammed the brakes and made me realize that I only missed the car in front/right of me by millimeters.

And of course nothing can simulate idiocy. Like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who passes the queue in front of a one lane construction site with like 100 mph while you try to switch to that lane ...
Or a grey car without lights coming out of nowhere in the fog.

People that don't put lights on in fog really annoy me.
Yes you can see, but your lights are not just to let you see, but also to let people SEE YOU.

Its even worse now. The most common colour of car is silver grey (perfect fog camo).

And side lights are not enough either. put you proper lights on when in fog.
