Do we own our games on Steam?
If we do, I want to archive them and be able to install without Steam in the future....if so, how?

No, we do not. And we didn't when they were in physical form either.
Great... well, I guess im done with buying games on steam. I hear GoG lets you DL in exe form and archive it. I may look into that more. Are there any other distributors that allow back up of exe?
No, I feel like this is very obvious but any digital game you've ever paid for, doesn't belong to you. Yes I also think that is shady as hell and we should own our games as we paid for them. So if Steam ever goes down then bye bye games we paid for

Except Valve already stated clearly that if the day ever comes where Steam would shut down (which is never going to happen, even if Valve would go bankrupt somehow), they would work on a way to let us access all the games we have on our accounts afterwards.
You never own any digital product no matter what platform you use. Hell, you don’t even own physical goods as that can be taking away as well

Out of the non-obscure ones GOG is the only one.

True, just checked out GoG and you do in fact own the games there. Can DL and archive with exe. But they only host DRM free, so it is a bit limited on what they have and more older titles. But Im good with that. I just found like 6 titles I wished I had kept over the years and plan to buy again. And games are priced nicely there. I will be doing more business with them in the foreseeable future. Now, I have to get another 2TB storage space, lol... thanks for the reply.

And all you really own on GOG is a license, just like on Steam.

GoG rules:
Can I share games with others?

Your account and games are for your personal use only. If you want to share them, you can always buy a gift for that person.

The DRM-free nature of our service means that we trust you that this will not be abused.

IF you ACTUALLY would OWN GoG Games.... they could not disallow that you share them. :D :D :D

The ONLY thing that GoG offers you is DRM FREE, doesnt mean you own them...

Best case for Steam is to have another machine not connected to the internet, but I’m not 100% certain if logging will always work
