I'm playing it outside of steam. You don't even need a PC to play it
If you're getting bored playing games then take the hint from your brain and do something else. Maybe try a detox of a week without gaming while trying something new. You don't have to like it, you can always give up. But the effort of trying something new outside of gaming will give you a different perspective on your gaming time. If we take guitar as an example you could even "Gamify" or "RPG" your new hobby and use gaming as a reward for applying yourself to the new skill. Completing 30 minutes of guitar practice could be rewarded with a game session.
On each platform I have a varied number of "go to" favourite games. I usually leave these games on shelves so I can get to them quickly rather than filing them away.
If I'm feeling like playing PS1 then I'll often go for Silent Hill, or the 3 Resident Evils. If I want to "warm up" before going to something else, then I'll often jump into something a bit more pick aup and put down.
On these instances I'll usually play my arcade cabinet as they're perfect for getting in the groove.
But generally speaking if I'm stuck or have just finished a massive game and feel in limbo a bit, I'll often turn to the PS2 for something as there's so many great games on there to turn to.
They usually cleanse my palette ready for something else.
There's a few games though I will regularly play every few months or so - Jet Set Willy on the ZX Spectrum, Shadowman on Dreamcast or PC.
