Rank every GOTY game since 2003

I saw some numptie do this on youtube and noticed how much i ended up disagreeing with the majority of his list, figured id do a list on here and see how much of a difference my opinion is to others on here.

1. GTA San Andreas. Brilliant game, not just gameplay wise but changed the scope of what a third person game could do for the future.
2. Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. Is it the second best game on this list? No, but paved the way for western rpgs to regularly be released on other platforms besides PC.
3. The Witcher 3. Brilliant Game. WRPG refined to perfection.
4. GTA IV. Yeah i might get some blowback here but it was ahead of its time, even though its controls werent as refined as GTA V. I feel like the attention to deal, physics and story of it outstrips that game by a distance.
5. Skyrim. Brilliant Game, that you could argue is better than Oblivion, but wasnt as important for WRPGs, since without it this game would never have existed.
6. Red Dead Redemption. Brilliant Game, hard to believe rockstar from 2010 is the same company it is in 2024.
7. Bioshock. Without it you wouldnt have the story driven FPSs coming out today.
8. Breath Of The Wild - Zelda. Another brilliant Zelda game that seems to be either overrated or underrated by most people
9. Uncharted 2. Perfected the over the shoulder shooter story driven gameplay NG is known for. That devs finest hour
10.Baldurs Gate 3. Great game, but massively overrated. If it had used Diablo like combat instead of the roll the dice D & D stuff it did do it would be higher on the list. Top 5 at least
11. Resident Evil 4. Far from my favorite RE (REmake, RE2 OG, RE3 and CV are all better in my eyes), but a brilliant game in its own right. I'd probably like it way more if it was its own IP and not a RE game.
12. Elden Ring. Most overrated game on this entire list. I would argue From Software are the most overrated game dev of all time on top of it. Boring clunky gameplay, washed out graphics, gameplay no different to any of the other Soulslikes they made in the past. Another example of a game where a lot of it fans bought into its hype because it was trendy to do so.
13. Madden 04. Hilarious how a football game from 20 years ago has 20x the features 25 does. I will say though that NFL2K5 is the greatest football game ever made but since GOTY awards/normies seem to hate SEGA it was never going to win it.
14. Sekiro. Good refinement of the Nioh/NG game formula
15. GTA V. Overrated as hell, would be higher if R* didnt turn this into a FOMO online game full of macrotransactions
16. God Of War 2018. Does my head in how this got a GOTY award and the far superior OG trilogy never won even one of them.
17. Last of Us Part 2. Brilliant graphics, good gameplay let down by horrible writing. Whoever thought it was a good idea to kill off the protoganist from the original game deserves to be fired
18. Walking Dead (Telltale series). Good games, but another game that i dont feel deserved to get a GOTY award.
19. Overwatch. Overrated, and the loot box phenomenon it spawned made me very tempted to put this dead last on this list.
20.Dragon Age Inquistion. Another game totally undeserving of a GOTY nomination, let alone a high spot on it.
21. It takes two. Any game that requires a second person to be able to play it should automatically disqualify it from any GOTY discussion. end of.

Because it hasnt won a goty yet. simple. Regardless my vote this year goes to Metaphor even though i know it wont win (because westerners hate SEGA regardless of the high quality of games they put out)

Your missing some GOTY's off that list. For example, Fallout games are not listed on it, yet i remember one being a GOTY. Since your going back to 2004 with madden, i guess you just skipped them?

I haven't played the vast majority of the ones listed because practically none of them appeal to me. The only ones I've played are Skyrim and Breath of the Wild. Skyrim I didn't finish, it just wasn't able to grab me. Breath of the Wild I did finish, I thought it was fun enough and was a well made game, but as a Zelda game it doesn't even get into my top five. I probably won't ever go back to it, in all honesty.

Ok , so OP should clarify this is a list of games OP played that are GOTY, and not all GOTY games out there. So it is biased based on OP's own experiences with such games and not show all game of the year titles.

Funny how op does not mention any of the HALF LIFE GAMES, yet there were officially GOTY.

Seeing as I don't allow these lists to have any effect on my gaming I could care less about them other than finding out what SOMEONE ELSE thinks is the GOTY for those years.

I owned the original God of War and that was the last one I bought. Not my kind of game, hence not my GOTY.

Then again you are placing the W in front of RPG so all that tells me is you are intimately familiar with bias.

You may have the title Game Industry Guardian in your profile but the regionally challenged aren't guardians of anything but bias to me.

I'll stick to my list of GOTYs for every year and let those of you by this biased B.S. enjoy it for all its worth.

I cbf researching at the time so i wasnt aware until 2014 there were dozens of different game awards. Half Life 2 i wouldve had in the top 3 easily, so sorry about that. Also, yeah i do have a bias against western rpgs generally, most people have bias when it comes to games they like, at least im willing to admit it. Lots of people dont
