[This thread can be closed.] Why the hate on people with private profiles?
Greetings all;

So, I have noticed that alot of people looking to for friends or cleaning their perspective friends lists seem to dislike or put the ban on people with private profiles. Why is that? Exactly?

I mean you are going to interact with us on the forums anyway, why not get to know us a bit through the game forums or groups that we share membership with? I have asked a few questions on game forums and have offered up help on game forums. I do my best to be polite. Granted I do tend to ramble on a bit while chatting ( {virtually}, which is weird or ironic really, considering when my neighbor feels chatty I seem to always have to go pee and leave). But only when I am asking a question (case in point). When I am answering a question that I believe I know the answer too or can provide some guidence I am straight and to the point, ( your welcome).

Alot of people have their profiles actually set to freinds only (like me) so if you were a friend the profile would not be private. At least not for those who dared friend someone without first being able to paruse their profile.

Is it really because we appear as strangers? If so, then why the heck are you trying to make friends with a stranger in the first place? Or is it just the market? Do you need to be friends to trade? Does'nt the market hook you up with perspective traders already? Or no? That would require traders to be screened, that means more code, that means more costs, that means no right.

What if you just wanted to chat a bit and say whats up? What if you were ok with being social occasionaly but not into multiplayer games, but wouldn't mind a conversation on related issues or events and such.

Anyway, thats all. Thanks.

There are many with private profiles who are suspected or confirmed scammers (It's very common). That and they usually cause mischief and have something to hide from everyone else.

Yes. Having a private profile these days is just suspicious. It's crazy, I know but it is what it is.

Your typical troll will make their profile private so people can't see their stats/games played or owned, which is often related to what a troll will use to troll.

Forgot about that.
First and for most, scam bots, they keep privte profile so users can see anything things that can hint on them been bots (like play time, friends, and so on)
After you get 100 of them it gets some what tired some to find if ghee bots or legit

Also like said, it means you have some secret to hide, that can be danger

By the way, if you have friends only when you send friend request that user can see your profile, it's not private for them and there for you will be out of privte profiles invite territory
first it is not Facebook you don't have personal picture in it to make it private and second in gaming world there is not any privacy because every body want to compete with each other

and if you have private profile it mean first you are not a gamer 2nd you might be a hacker 3rd you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Facebook kid who don't know different between steam and Facebook .
There's nothing on a Steam profile that anyone needs to know. Nothing that people need in order to be safe or for anything else. The "hate" for people with private profiles is completely irrational guilt-by-association nonsense.

And what if I simply have no desire to interact with private profilers for reasons that arent anybody else's business?

Well, do what you like of course. But the thread is specifically about people's reasoning (ie. it's a "why" thread, not a "what" thread), so if you specifically don't want to talk about reasoning, there's...not really anything to say?

Or some of us might just value our privacy, and really don't want to deal with random friend requests from people they don't know in real life.
all we can see is what games u PLAY!!!!!! or i guess someone can find out your adress via looking what games u got lmfao lmfao ... friend invites ..1 click decline ..

Why wouldn't you have it on public? What is in there that is so private? This is steam,, just leave it public.
Personally, I understand the need to make a profile private, it's how some people roll. What I don't understand is people that pimp the @#$t out of their profile, and then make it private; makes no sense. That is the only confusing thing to me but to each his own I guess.

I'll put it this way, my profile used to be public, on average I would get 5-6 invites from random people (they didn't even own the games I do). I changed my profile to private and get 0 random invites.
