Helldivers 2 moderation team has some of the worst moderators of any community I've seen
We've had:
- multiple threads discussing which terminid (insect, if you haven't played the game) is the most "breedable" (as in players want to have sex with it)
- users say that if the game has LGBT capes then they're intentionally going to teamkill and harass those players
- threads demanding "straight pride capes"
- users spend hours claiming they were "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" and entertaining themselves by trolling the steam forums
- threads calling the developers idiots and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with nothing constructive

And what's in common with all these? Absolutely unmoderated. The threads stay open for days when people are telling people to "♥♥♥" and leaving comments like "LGBTKYS". The users remain unbanned or have only a 24 hours ban before they reopen the exact same topic.

Me? I caught a ban for:
Here's another super naive clown farmer.
That's too bad. Its' really easy to see the niche for Quasar and its negatives.... unless you're obviously clown farming

How? How does this violate anything?

I guess the lesson learned here is straight pride bug sexing harassment and suggestions of self harm for protected groups is okay, but suggesting someone is being carried is "harassment and abuse".

I have never seen this on steam before. Over in other games there are plenty of the politiking nonsense threads but to have the steam moderators of this community spend their team NOT closing bugsex threads and allowing people to suggest self harm FOR DAYS is ridiculous.

We need new moderators that actually know and uphold rules on steam forums like:
- Threats or encouragement of harm
- Trolling or baiting arguments
- Discrimination
- Re-posting closed, modified or deleted content
- Derailing a discussion or topic
- Bumping threads
- Encouraging or facilitating real-world violence
- Spamming

Right now there's a thread open:
do hell dive have fat ass????????
what happen if heck dunker take penetrate round to behind area????????? urgen t

I expect this to remain open for an entire week and devolve into in-depth suggestions of which NPC to breed - in a very non-hentai/adult themed game.

The way moderation work in Steam now is via reports. You can say the wildest thing as long as you don't get reported. Get reported for the most innocuous thing and suddenly you have to defend yourself in front of a mod.
got actioned for saying a complainer was just bad at the game before giving them legitimate advise

op lost when he said discrimination is in need of moderation. that never works the way people think it does.
Dunno what you read but this is pretty egregious.
Both instances of whackydoodleness are just entirely irrelevant to the game and clog up the forums. Then it escalates to self harm and threats.

That's a bit above and beyond. I know how that works. It shouldn't be this way on Steam forums.
if you have a taxi driver and he sees 2 people thumbing for a ride
-one is white
-one is black
-one or both are going to the airport
-one is in a suit one is in a bum like outfit

it doesnt matter which is is which the taxi driver will discriminate agianst the bum looking guy because hes out to be paid not robbed.

its a thought exercise people just dont get when it comes to the word discrimnation.

we discriminate against murders and throw them into a concret box with metal bars because of the murders.

thats how most moderation works and why you see so many complaints about them. you can have a book about why but since you called the stupid stupid the worl*ds ending and you need a ban.

the worst part is the people trying to pigeon hold certain things in games are actually toxic and to just prove it they start false flagging out of butt hurt and steam has literally no means of handl*ing it.

the word toxic is another word that people lose if they use because it never is used to adress actually toxic things and almost always used by the most toxic elemants. id use the word i prefer but im pretty sure the mods would cry agian if i did so i cant hints why im wasting my time using it instead of what i would use that we used to use for a long time until the flase flagging problem became the problem it is.

Do developers have the option of disabling forums? Because holy hell am I seeing some ♥♥♥♥ go down. I get the impression mods just are not articulate enough and the community rules and guidelines are out of date

Unfortunately, the mods are run by bots with nonexistent human-level intelligence.

i keep complaining about how people run to the report function when the block function is more appropriate for a reason. policy and culture go hand and hand and if you have childish people and you give them something like a report to chat ban they will run to it because they arent mature enough or smart enough to use words.

i forget who made the video but i think it was about ff7 and how if you treat people like adults they will behave like adults when it comes to moderation.

instead we get so many of these companies that play stupid games for stupid prizes.

helldivers 2 is just the next big failure in FPS, obviously nobody ever heard of helldivers 1

, the marketing gimmick will pass and the people on that bandwagon will be falling flat on there face, games like that are a dime a dozen so there is just no reason to even bother with them.

how many first person shooters does the industry need, clearly we have over 100 popular ones, and it makes sense that the populations in each suffer as more and more people divide themselves between them all.

the fact th at the FPS population is divided is part of the reason why these games are failing on a massive level. there just is not enough people in the world game playing for make even half of these FPS successful.

It seems to be a short time inbetween the life and popularity of each, in a month another FPS will release putting this one in its grave.

I'm not sure you're in the right place buddy we're not here to mope about HD2. We're here to discern as to whether Steam Forums are worth saving (admittedly the answer seems to be: no)

I mean tbf it's kind of tangential.

I just don't really understand why the HD2 forum is so bad.
Related to "the next best FPS" the forums for The Finals are full of nonsense about "too woke" and "liberals ruining our games" literally because the models aren't "hot chicks" - and this is stupid but it's fine. I don't care if this is moderated as long as people don't start to invent "this item in the game means you're [some protected group]" and the counter to that is people saying "I would just shoot [protected group]" etc. Then it's pretty much borderline discrimination (which is against the steam forum rules).

But HD2.... oh buddy... HD2 forums are absolutely wild. The word "naive" gets hit with a ban in 6 hours. The threat of "I wish I really could shoot them" stays up as a main page topic for a week. The second type of topic is filled with "blocked and reported" and yet.... it's still there.

It's finally finally finally "clean" this week. You can't convince me the bugsexing everythingphobes just took a vacation - I hope/think maybe Valve/Steam proper actually stepped in and/or at least warned the moderators.

the question isnt is it worth saving but can it be saved and the answer is no.

also lmao that helldivers 2 is an fps failure. its like saying palworld failed. ill take that multi million dollar failure easy.

It would be better to just let them be. That way they will not have more stuff to arguing.

Technically it does fail at being an FPS by being a third person shooter.
