What are your biggest unpopular gaming opinions?
A few months ago, I made a post asking Steam users what games they dislike that a majority of others like. I wanted to make a bit of an expansion of that thread that doesn't just center on games one dislikes that others like, but for gaming as a whole whether it would be positive or negative. Your unpopular opinions can be centered around anything related to gaming; studios, genres or specific video games, anything goes. Feel free to vent out all your frustrations in this thread. Just, please be civil about it and don't start dumb fights.

I'll start:
I don't understand the appeal of Pokemon.
DOOM II is, at best, a decent expansion pack.
I'd take Quake II over anything that came afterwards.
Nintendo peaked with the Wii (I'm totally nostalgia blind for this one).
GTA IV is the best one in the series.
Game stories don't need to have good writing in order to be enjoyable.
Dark Souls is not for me.
Sonic Heroes is mid.

I'm sure I pushed some buttons with these ones.

Valve games are overrated, especially the HL series. It's a bland and mediocre series.
Graphics don't matter.
Gamers are, like every customer group, terrible.

Those last two aren't that controversial of takes. In recent years, I've heard many online say that graphics don't matter. Personally, I would choose enjoyable gameplay over realistic visuals, hell, I even think audio and story is more important than graphics. It's also universally agreed upon that gamers, old and new, are quite possibly some of the most obnoxious people you'll meet on Earth (myself included).

I am, however, interested by your thoughts on Valve games. I personally love them, but I was wondering what makes them boring to you.

I've had plenty of discussions about graphics and "gamers" to know that people realy, really want to argue about such things. :lunar2019grinningpig:

The Portal games are fun, but the rest is just generally unfun to me. Granted, I don't have much with MP titles. But the HL games are simply boring to me. The story isn't interesting, the pacing isn't great, it's all just mediocre and bland to me. I purchased HL1 on disc back in 98/99, I played around half the game and gave the disc away because of the game being simply not interesting to me. I tried HL2 when a friend purchased it, but same feeling so I quit soon in the game.

I played the first Portal and really liked it, but I never played its sequel. I did play both HL1 and HL2 and absolutely loved them, the second one in particular being my all-time favorite game. I will admit that the pacing of the Half-Life games, especially HL2, isn't that great as some sections focus way too much on a gimmick to show off Valve's new tech which, to be fair, was pretty common for games in the 90s. As for Valve's multiplayer titles, they don't really interest me. I played a lot of TF2 when I was younger, but I lost interest. I don't like any of the Counter-Strike games and Left 4 Dead isn't really for me.

That Elden Ring is a disappointing From Software game. I just didn't feel the open world benefited the wider experience overall plus there was a lot of copy and pasted elements from dungeons and especially bosses. There were also instances where bosses would have invincibility windows on animations and even be protected by invisible walls. I really hope this doesn't become the standard for any Sekiro or Dark Souls sequels down the line.

I also feel Breath of the Wild is overrated - it is an incredibly polished game no doubt but if it didn't have the Zelda title then it wouldn't be as well-regarded. It doesn't do anything we haven't seen relentlessly for the last decade in open world games and even has radio towers which were ridiculed years prior. Once you've played 20 hours you've seen everything. Definitely a game for Nintendo fans who may not have experience with several other open world games we've seen in the past couple of generations.

I don't like ultrarealistic graphics, I think many games looked better without so many details.
Right now I feel like we're at a point where games are looking better than real life... which is just exhausting to look at for me.

Multi-player games aren't fun, online gaming isn't fun, Call of Duty online isn't fun.

1. Graphics don't matter as long as the controls are responsive.
2. Sex ruins all video games. Always. The more graphic it is, the more it takes away the fun.
3. Video games that are rated less "T" should not contain depictions of homosexuality or any swearing.
4. The ESRB does not go far enough.
5. Dating simulators are creepy (except the KFC one, that's based).
6. The "E-10" rating should not exist: all games should be either "E" or "T".
7. I like Mods that add "Skibidi Toilet" content.
8. Multiplayer is for console peasants (unless it's "Helldivers II").
9. Paradox's DLC system is only bad when the DLC is broken.
10. "Grand Theft Auto" is hot garbage.
11. "Tropico VI" is the best in the series.
12. "Victoria III" is better than "Victoria II" despite the former not having warfare.
13. The optimal user interface for video games is opaque, boxy menus akin to "Roller Coaster Tycoon II", "Windows Ninety-Eight", or "Rise of Nations II".
14. Nudity ruins video games. Always.

Visual Novels are not games, and should not be sold on Steam. It is okay if a game delivers its story visual novel style, but it still needs to come paired with a game as well.

I'm glad I don't share your opinions when it comes to video games.

Couldn't be any simpler.

I've mentioned it once before more elaborately, but probably my most uncommon opinion on any game is that GTA V just isn't that good in general; especially story-wise; particularly because the main villains are incredibly weak and stereotypical. Online meanwhile is just a bunch of futuristic nonsense and MTX now. What is actually good about GTA V is what is happening under the hood, and that it can run on a lot of different setups.

I think that's a pretty reasonable way to put it actually.
Granted, it could also be interpreted as a very unpopular opinion if you had pointed specifically to the writing of BL3 actually being good. It definitely improves on its predecessors in some other ways though.
