I got a warning on the Elite Dangerous discussion page citing community guidelines
I asked a very simple and respectful question about the basis for moderating the discussions as I could not see why a certain post was locked. I did take a screenshot of the message I got from the moderator, citing the community guidelines, with my original message. Would be happy to upload it here but I'm not sure how or if it's allowed. I really went out of my way to be polite and understanding and suggest these reasons or rules for thread locking / deletion could be more clearly visible to us users as they didn't break Steam's guidelines.

The moderator (I don't know who it is) cited "Contesting Moderation" as the reason and linked me to the Steam guidelines, where the wording is "Openly arguing with a moderator". I did not address any moderator and there were no moderators posting in that thread before it got deleted.
I didn't really even "contest moderation", I did not say they were wrong to do it but I suggested it could be more transparent. I told this to the moderator as the warning had a comment field but I doubt I will get an answer.

I guess it feels unfair to me and I now have no place to address this as I would probably get banned from the game's discussion page. So maybe I'm venting a little. I do have a question though; now that I got a "Warning in the Elite Dangerous Community Hub Forum", does this only affect that specific forum? Am I safe to assume my account doesn't get a hidden flag / get moderated more strictly elsewhere on Steam for what I consider an unfair reason and posting within Steam guidelines, in both spirit and exact wording?

Thanks.

In the end it comes down to this:
Each game forum is run by the developer/publisher of the game. They appoint their own moderators, they may have their own rules for what they consider breaking of said rules and generally you have a very low chance to get any ruling from a game forum moderator overturned.

If you think you did not get moderated fairly you would need to contact the game developer/publisher since they run the forum on Steam.
Think of the game forums more like foreign embassies on Steam ground.

And yes, global moderators can see warnings you got from game forums but unless you really collected a lot of them i doubt anyone will moderate anything you do differently then other users.
I got quiet a few warnings over the years from game forums for "heated" discussions and even one ban and i dont feel like i was ever treated differently by the global moderators for it.
It's the same on any social media. Abide by their rules or get out. Sadly some mods do get off on a bit of a power trip, but you have no real way of doing anything about it. In my experience any attempt at negotiation or appeal will just fall flat.

Not to mention 'contesting moderation' or 'arguing with a moderator' is one of the silliest rules to exist, I've never seen that kind of ruleset on any other major community I've been a part of. that tells me they're the wrong people for the job that they even need such rules. Those rules allow any mod of any section from the game hub to Steam to just throw power around and retaliate if anyone says/does anything they feel violated those rules.

Seen mods shame users in threads as well or otherwise say something to provoke an argument then lock it directly after. Game hub mods are basically "what I say goes don't you dare question me", though I've not personally had issues with game hub mods I've seen some of what other users have been through. Power goes to peoples heads.

You're likely fine, it's Frontier & it's in the UK, how things are handled paired with reputation of both will mean you likely won't be treated differently.
Asking things like "why was this locked I don't think it should have been" is still arguing with moderation.

Saying something politely does not change the fact that its very nature is on the list of things not open to discussion and that you can be warned for it.

Hell your entire post here is nothing more than you trying to argue with the moderation for giving you a warning for arguing with them.

Agreed.

I see a lot of misconceptions on the part of OP and I've seen then a thousand times before.
"Blocked User" right after I post as usual. With respect, I do not like being stalked & don't read nor respond to those I know are attempting to bait people into arguments.

I'm more amazed that people even ask "why was it locked"
Usually that means "that's that" & people just move onto whatever

Shouldn't re-make them, though asking "why" something happened/someone made such a decision is in peoples nature.

Though this isn't in that section, so it's general the OP has a fair point that they could leave a reason more often rather than just locking something.

Would've been more accurate if they said something like "can't criticize the approved narrative of those in power & what they preach" or something of a similar nature.

:cozybethesda:
The Discussion Guidelines are an approved narrative?
