Motion sickness from FPS games?
I'm just curious if others experiencing motion sickness from some FPS games? Especially not-so-young people? I'm 39 and I used to have no problem with FPS games. But by now approx every second FPS game make me sick. Some takes an hour or two to have any adverse effect, while in case of some others it takes mere minutes before I feel like the world is spinning and almost throwing up... I'm not sure if this is because I'm getting older or perhaps because the games are somewhat different now than used to? I tried sitting farther from the screen, have more light in the room, but it doesn't really help.

For me it varies. Some games I have no trouble with, others make me feel like throwing up.

Tweaking graphics settings, mouse speed, camera speed, all those kinds of options sometimes help make things bearable. Try doing what you can to slow things down, so to speak. Some games I simply can't play, like Portal 2, no matter what I do to the settings, due to the nature of the game, but others that don't require so much in the way of acrobatics/rapid camera movement can be adjusted to a point they at least don't make you feel nauseated.

it could be the field of view settings on the games you are playing.
a comfortable field of view differs for different resolutions, screen size, distance from screen.
or do you play many different fps in a day/week?each game may have a different FOV and your brain is strugelling to get used to them.

God knows what it depends on... Just and example: I had no problem with Tomb Raider in 2013. Now with the new Rise of The Tomb Raider I can't play more than 30 minutes in one go. These games are so similar to each other, so I'm guessing it's me ageing?
90% sure its because of Field of view.

This always happens to me if the game has 85º or less.

Field of View is a common way to fix it. Sometimes it works, but not always.

Another trick is to play in a well lit room at a proper distance from the monitor. This will allow your mind to reaslise you are not actualy moving.

had a quick google and it turns out that tr rottr uses a dynamic FOV. as in it changes in real time depending on camera angle/point of focus and cant be set manually.

but so did TR 2013.

have you upgraded your monitor since 2013? like from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio?

if it is just age then that sucks big time but it could be worse, you could have arthritis in your trigger finger.

I tend to get motion sickness from console ports. It didn't affect me much until three years ago and now I feel sick and in the case of Max Payne 3, I had a piercing headache. Normally it's the FOV which I hear is set for TV sets while some seem to have weird movement which puts me off.

How large is your monitor? Sometimes playing on a larger sized screen can make you dizzy.

I can't even play games on my 42" TV without losing focus and feeling sick.

Makes it even worse if you have the 3D turned on while playing a game.

I actually wanted to discuss this thing. I think this is happening to me, and I Googled about it. I realized I've felt sick lately after playing games. First Portal 2, then Fallout New Vegas, and lastly, yesterday Tomb Raider. With the first two, I thought it's a random thing, maybe hormonal, whatever. But I'm seeing a pattern here. Planning to get some travel-pills, and train myself gradually, maybe I'll be able to play without getting sick.

Screen is 27" Acer, 1920x1080. Had it for a while. I had no problem using it with the new Wolfenstein or Witcher 3.

The only time I've ever had issues with motion sickness is when the FOV is screwed up and I can't change it, or the sensitivity is too high on the movement options and I ingore it rather than change it.

The only other time is with anything 3D. I can't do 3D at all (games, movies...etc).

Nah, it's because in Tomb Raider the camera never stops wobbling around. I would like to take whoever thought that looked cool and strap them to the mast of a sailboat in rough seas for a while and see how they like it.
Max Payne 3 gave me so much motion Sickness...
On the other hand played CSGO 1800Hrs, nad never had any issue.

I'm telling you man, it's the FOV

Try to change viewmodel , Another trick I use is
Play for an hour and take a 15 min break, move around and have a snack :3
