Unless you have an actual source to back this up, nothing you said is true.
Considering, games don't advertise themselves for a category and will only show up when a user votes if the own the game. I think you need to play it as well.

You are confusing "The Game Awards" with "The Steam Awards."
Valve has nothing to do with Geoff Keighley's "The Game Awards" that aired last night.
"The Steam Awards" nominations (last month) AND finalist (during the Winter sale) voting is done by 100% of the Steam community.
