Thoughts on GOG?
There's a game I'm interested in that's only available on GoG. I hate the idea of splitting libraries. If I buy a game on GoG do I have to log in each time to play it or will it just boot up? I heard they have no DRM or something.

Am I just buying the game at that point? With the GoG account just there for transaction purposes?

I am using GoG for old games, that you can't get on Steam. What kills GoG for me, is how many games are missing from their store.
It's a real pity they don't do more to source older titles left in limbo especially ones that have been heavily requested by the community. Real big opportunity missed that would benefit all parties. There's a lot of frustration because people have been enquiring about games for years and there is just no feedback on whether something has been explored or if it's even possible. Everything just seems to fall on deaf ears.

In the long run, GOG will just end up stagnated with their ever-familiar range of older titles you can't get elsewhere with the only fresh elements being the newly released games they can offer DRM free you can get anywhere. If you aren't using GOG for this purpose and have seen all they have to offer in terms of older games then their USP is majorly diminished and they become just another regular store.

They do some good giveaways and Galaxy is a perfectly good launcher but the rapport and hope the site once had seems to be evaporating all the time.

Keep in mind that many of these games have licensing issues, though. I would love to see Scarface and The Godfather there but it's very unlikely to happen for this reason...

From my brief experience with GOG, it's actually a pretty decent website if you want to buy older PC games. In fact, GOG might be the best service for PC games (other than Steam of course). A good majority of the games don't require DRM and the prices are decent. Unfortunately, the launcher is inferior to that of Steam and it doesn't really offer much modern games. Despite all its flaws GOG is great for buying and playing old-school games, not to mention, infinitely better than "Epic" Games Store.

Yes, it is better than EGS since it has a lot more games, that's all.

To be fair, raw sewage is better than the EGS. :P

Epic Games is single-handedly ruining PC gaming. Their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher, terrible games and numerous anti-consumer practices make them one of the worst video game companies out there. The only reason people use EGS is for free games and exclusives. Speaking of which, I really wish Epic Games would stop putting timed-exclusives on their service. I wouldn't mind this if the launcher actually worked, but this is EGS so it obviously doesn't, so I have to wait at least a year to actually play the games. As Gabe Newell said, piracy is a service problem. If the service isn't good, you're better off pirating the games on it. I almost never pirate games, but I only do so when they are exclusive to a launcher that's never worked.

If you have an epic account, just link it to Heroic Launcher or Lutris.

Nah, I've purchased games there, and they weren't even exclusives.

I'd definitely agree with this sentiment.

I play on as many platforms as I wish and I'm not fanboyish in the slightest. All have their flaws and bonuses too.

Steam is ultimately the market leader as it offers a wide range of things that are convenient. From decent prices in mad sales, to possibly the least intrusive DRM (as long as it's the ONLY DRM). Coupled with the largest player base of course.

But GO is a decent second. It's largely a different market, mind as it has traditionally focused on older games that tend to get forgotten or left by the wayside. But best of all, NO DRM. So once you've bought it you can back it up as much as you like forever. Plus even if you're like me, who has a lot of those older games still on physical copies, they're sometimes a pain in the arse to get going again on modern systems.

So for a few quid you can buy another copy just for the convenience of having them do all that work for you as GOG games run on modern systems. YOu sometimes get a few silly extras like artwork, soundtracks and the like.

Outside of this all the other platforms tend to have more cons to pros. Epic has masses of problems, as does Origin and UPlay. Plenty of times they simply don't work for bizarre reasons.

Just like the Steam market. It's incredibly easy to get stuck there, you click next page and it never loads.

Never said it wasn't flawproiof did I? Non sequitur much?

This is talking about the GAME STORE. There's plnety of server related issues here not all of which can be fixed because that's how the internet works.

Just making it clear.

But regardless it's still remains irrelevant to the game store for the reasons I pointed out.

ALL online services have issues with oinline parts when server loads get high. ALL time out under certain conditions.

I don't care for GoG. Don't even have an account there. It ... exists.
