Steam is killing PC gaming
Steam's monopoly is killing the PC gaming industry.. just look at their model over the years.. they used to have a decent library of free to play games or fairly priced games.. now they sell failed AAA titles for premium prices and before people say "stop it's not steam it's the developers" do you think steam hosts the games free for them? Nope that add's a premium to the costs.. I've spent more money on other platforms than steam in the last 5 years..

Hey remember that when buying Steam keys from other legitimate online resellers, Valve gets 0% of the revenue share when you activate the game key here.

And remember Valve winning, is spending that 30% revenue on a expensive legal team many years pre -trial readying for anti - trust case. Case 2:21-cv-00563-JCC anyway.
30% is the industry standard.
Epic game store is an exception, not the rule.
Also Wolfire games is suing under the impression that Valve has a monopoly on PC game storefronts.
Which Valve clearly does not have a monopoly.
Now Epic and Microsoft are both trying to get a monopoly, by getting exclusivity deals (Epic) or by buying the devs studios (Microsoft).

Thing is that it won't start good in Wolf's favor given they are not only still on Steam, but they got busted with Steam at least three times now for scummy consumer practices along with a number of issues. People seriously think they were removed from Steam? No they are still 100% on Steam, the game that caused issues was yes, removed, they however still use Steam so they would be at fault for what is basically company spying, as not putting the group your suing entirely away from your company files under company spying so Wolffire out of the gate has several huge flaws before they can even get stuff right.

Steams catalog is what puts it over stores like EGS and GOG for me. And the base prices are largely the same across those stores, with actually GOG being a tad more expensive on some fronts. Steam and Epic have the same prices.

Well, as you said, the value of the games are set by the devs/publishers, so Steam has almost nothing to do with it.

Also, there are other stores like GoG (which is a nice platform too), or even the MS store.

Steam is the door for many people to start in this hobby, but not the only one.

You mean where one developer had to file 3 times before it was accepted?

steam doesnt release games, the publishers of game makers are. if it is not released on steam, they release their game unfinished elsewhere..

They need to be the same in most cases because of the rules on the platforms that you have to sell for the same prices everywhere usually to prevent abuse.

That the competition ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks and barely looks like it's trying doesn't mean that Steam is a monopoly. Gog at least have their "niche" in drm free, the rest have no excuse.

Except those games sold on EGS and were not on Steam were the same standard price as other games that were. So the idea that such an agreement is what keeps games at a specific price really isn't true. Developers set the same price, regardless of where the game will be sold or their cut of the sale.

Agreed. EGS could have come out the gate with a full fledged store and features, then could have ridden the momentum to profitability. They took the lazy way though and it is still costing them money.

Heck, they even seem to be copying Roblox with what I have seen of the latest Fortnite. User generated content...

There is also EA, Ubisoft, Epic and many others so steam is hardly dominating anything. The only thing that sets steam apart is the economy and community.

Steam's monopoly.
Learn what Monopoly means and maybe you will realize that Steam is not a Monopoly.

And once again someone who doesn't know what a monopoly is.
How would you spend money on other platforms if Steam is a "monopoly"?

I don't know about Epic or GoG, but Steam doesn't have that rule. Don't know whether there's any chance it would hold up in court either.

Valve isn't forcing anyone to do anything, they aren't threatening you to stay with steam or else. they aren't doing anything to change your mind if you want to go elsewhere or even if your sense of entitlement is getting in the way blaming them for something that is a "you" problem.

i'm just saying, not supporting, because the facts are a lot different from any bias anyone might have on the matter. you are free to come and go as your please. that's no monopoly.

even if Valve wanted to try for a monopoly anyway, they can be reported for trying to use their position to close out all the other stores and force users on to steam, they aren't allowed to do that, there are rules against cornering the market and actively pushing out competition.
