Epic game store is an exception, not the rule.
Also Wolfire games is suing under the impression that Valve has a monopoly on PC game storefronts.
Which Valve clearly does not have a monopoly.
Now Epic and Microsoft are both trying to get a monopoly, by getting exclusivity deals (Epic) or by buying the devs studios (Microsoft).
Also, there are other stores like GoG (which is a nice platform too), or even the MS store.
Steam is the door for many people to start in this hobby, but not the only one.
Except those games sold on EGS and were not on Steam were the same standard price as other games that were. So the idea that such an agreement is what keeps games at a specific price really isn't true. Developers set the same price, regardless of where the game will be sold or their cut of the sale.
Agreed. EGS could have come out the gate with a full fledged store and features, then could have ridden the momentum to profitability. They took the lazy way though and it is still costing them money.
Heck, they even seem to be copying Roblox with what I have seen of the latest Fortnite. User generated content...
How is this even Possible? I thought Steam is a Monopoly?
How would you spend money on other platforms if Steam is a "monopoly"?
I don't know about Epic or GoG, but Steam doesn't have that rule. Don't know whether there's any chance it would hold up in court either.
i'm just saying, not supporting, because the facts are a lot different from any bias anyone might have on the matter. you are free to come and go as your please. that's no monopoly.
even if Valve wanted to try for a monopoly anyway, they can be reported for trying to use their position to close out all the other stores and force users on to steam, they aren't allowed to do that, there are rules against cornering the market and actively pushing out competition.
