Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Ok so i have been debating on this game for years. I finally decided to pull the trigger. But... i go to the store page to do a final once-over just to be sure everything is everything. I take a quick glance at review percentages for All-Time & Recent. All-Time is pretty much overwhelmingly positive (well close to it anyway). But i find myself questioning myself yet again because the recent reviews are down like 20-something percent. WTF!?! Anyway, did something happen or did the game get a bug or what the hell? If any of my fellow Steam brethren knows of the reason to why this is like that or if anyone knows anything about that period, i would greatly appreciate it. I would be playing Resident Evil 4 or Cyberpunk 2077 right now except for i'm not even remotely confident that i would be able to play it at least comfortably with RX 5700XT & Ryzen 9 3900X w/ a 60Hz or FPS or whatever u want to call it, Samsung smart T.V. my monitor was dropped by my 12 year old nephew. SMFH. I have my older monitor, but it's also 60Hz. So yeah, i don't think that will be any better. I mean it is an AOC 2560x1440 gaming monitor, but 60Hz all the same. I think. There is probably no settings or gaming optimization on planet Earth that would help that. Tax time comes, it's out with the old & in with the (somewhat) new. LMAO. Fraking Radeon man.... And Nvidia too. Shame on you for bankrupting all of my wonderful people of the PC Master-Race. One only works when it wants which is like 2 out of 10 times and the other is just stupidly out of control with their prices. I mean like really disgustingly overpriced. I'm probably crazy for saying this but by the gods of the universe, im seriously thinking about getting an Intel Arc A770. People recently have been telling me that Intel has made huge strides with their drivers. I guess they are not perfect, but darn near it. i mean dont get me wrong, i will take that with a grain of salt, but 16Gb of memory for some under $299. Just saw one on Newegg for seriously $249. But even at $300, at this point what have i got to lose? Not literal question. But close. In the mean time, i have around 3-4 months until i upgrade. So thats where games like Skyrim come into play (maybe). I appreciate your guys' intel & time. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, or whatever you fancy. Cheers-

Which version of Skyrim?

Current negative review spike is most likely due to the fact that they tried to make paid mods a thing again and the update broke savegames/mods for alot of people.

Oh ok. I was hoping it didn't pertain to the game itself. And to answer the other question, i just want to get the regular version. Unless theirs a "wow" factor w/ something big in the special edition. I embarrassingly admit, i am just hopping on the Elder Scrolls train. So i'm a newbie to the series. So i figured i would try it out & hopefully get away from horrible mean-treating people of this world and get lost in a fantasy one. But gotta find a fantasy powerful enough to do that. Last one that took me to their fantasy world was Final Fantasy X (not the garbage X-2). I hated anything after that as i am a loyal fan to the older battle system such as the one w/ Tidus & co. So yeah... just trying to get a feel for the Elder Scrolls world. My people have been on my case because i have yet to play Skyrim or Elder Scrolls for that matter. apparently idk what i am missing. Again thanks for your time you guys. I greatly appreciate it. Nothing more frustrating then purchasing a game that you were crossing your fingers would be good because of wasted money. In this case it's only 8 bucks so i was gonna get a few more for cheap. Like i said before i originally wanted Resident Evil 4 remake above all or even Cyberpunk 2077. I am just too paranoid about it not playing well enough. I don't need frakin 4K or anything. Good old 1080 will do. But i only have a Samsung smart tv thats 60Hz or something like that & i have my old gaming monitor thats a AOC. But thats 60Hz. I have Ryzen 9 3900X paired w/ a RX 5700xt. Yeah... I know, i know, a rx 5700xt. 2 days after it came out it seemed like a good idea. I mean the system requirements says the recommended GPU was exactly that of the RX 5700xt or better. Cyberpunk too oddly enough. But whatever. I trust my people here in the Steam community than my friends & fam. U guys have never been wrong. Idk man. I'm just really bummed out in situations like this. I thought the winter sale was going to be much better then it was. This years winter sale sucked especially when Steam is notorious for this sale. Oh well. Thanks u guys. Sorry about the novels. I just want to make sure i tell u everything. Cheers-

Special edition is the base version anniversary is a modpack dlc, haven't bought anniversay but from what I've read it's contents are implemented rather lazily.

Ok. Yeah, i want to play the SE version then. I don't want to get crazy w/ all the modding & all that. Just wanted to play the game & see if it was good. Or at least worth 8 bucks.

if it is your first time playing Skyrim, I guarantee you you will be in awe. :erune:

LMAO... See right there, thats what i was hoping to the gods i would hear. Out of all my friends & family, the worst comment i got was that my ass would hurt & my legs will fall asleep because i won't want to move, eat, or sleep because the awesomeness of Skyrim. Lol. I thought that was a bit much but everyone pretty much agreed. Of course i wasn't going to take their word for it seeing as all but 2 or 3 are puny console gaming peasants who should bow down to the Master-Race. Now that i heard it from someone worthy enough, i will gladly now try. Lol. I just had a little cold feet cuz i caught the recent percentage reviews. That threw me off because i thought maybe a bug something hit the game. But like Kepler above said about all the mods & packages & all that is the reason for the recent dookie reviews. Thank u guys so very much. Honestly. I love asking for help on the community because their are actually nice descent people who don't troll others just because someone had a beginner question or is a newb to something. Also get replys super quick. Even now at 4:00 am eastern time here in good old Cleveland, Ohio. lol. Thanks again guys & merry Christmas & all that if it's your thing. If not , thank u all the same. Cheers!-

I have thousands of hours in Skyrim legacy, which is just old skyrim from 2011. It's an amazing game in it's own right and once you're ready for it.

The advantages of Skyrim: Special Edition are that its 64-bit executable extends limits that are quite handy for modding, has all DLCs out of the box, and it goes on discounts unlike the original game.

If you would like to get the original game and its DLCs despite the much higher prices (they are unlisted):

As for whether you should play Skyrim, I say give it a go. It's widely regarded as the best entry in the series and has plenty to offer, and kept me engaged for a while even though I am not primarily an RPG player.

Jesus... thats a lot of DLC. Thats what i was kinda going for was hoping it was just a really good game. one in which is the gift that keeps on giving. And the DLC of which you have just shown me, tells me that it in fact is the case. Thank u all so much for your input. I hope you all have an awesome holiday. If u are like me, then it will be a solo day of gaming and not thinking about being solo for Christmas. That's why i love gaming so much even at 43 yrs old it can take you to another world. For a while there i was embarrassed to be a PC gamer as i have never lost interest. In fact if anything, i love PC gaming more. But i have learned over the past year that i am actually within average age for people gaming. Then i thought about it & it made sense to me. It's the future! 2024 very soon. I mean 2-0-2-4. I remember asking myself wondering what it would be like in the years of 2020 or 2030. There is something for everyone to game out. I mean older history buffs or something that play the warship and military games and such. I actually had 6 person team game few weeks ago where 4 of the 6 were older than me! One was 61! The others were in their early 50's & only 2 were younger in their 20's. I mean everything is electronic or has to do with internet & making folks having no choice but to learn to use a smartphone or PC. And when they do, they love it. It's just awesome that i get to use the kid in me when i'm online gaming or whatever and everyone acting totally normal about it. Because i then realized 1/4 of the pc gaming population is my age or older. It's just awesome when i ask about a game being a newbie at it and not get the ignorant remarks from people. There's no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to learning about something if you are a beginner or just getting started with something. I mean how else is one going to learn if they can't ask. Anyway, im getting way too deep with this right now. LMAO. But seriously, thank you all for literally taking a minute or 2 to help a stranger out. Cheers!-

So i just wanted to let y'all know i'm about to purchase Skyrim. So thanks for the input. Now i don't have to battle with that decision anymore. All i have to do now is jump to the Elder Scrolls realm and away from this terrible one .Cheers!-

Could have sworn they were delisted.

First off, my dude... Paragraphs, please. Walls of text can be difficult to read.

Second, Skyrim is an excellent game. The only reason more recent scores have dropped is because Bethesda keeps screwing with it all these 12 years later. They really want to monetize the passion and good will of the modding community, which is an awful idea for several reasons.

Also as for your RX 5700XT. That's still a great card. It was my last card, and it's still running strong in my son's PC, playing new and demanding AAA games wonderfully at 1080p.
Paratech2008 Dec 24, 2023 @ 1:44am
I picked up the "vanilla" Skyrim on GOG without the "monetized DLC".

Is it really worth the money?

I just wanted it DRM Free.

I have it on Steam as well and had it for the Xbox 360.
