Good JRPG's ???
New, Old, doesn't matter, just looking for classic good rpgs with the turn based combat system.

I absolutely loved this one, and I am quite critical. An ode to the old school.

Nep is a bit of an acquired taste, though. Personally, I also like (some) of the other Idea Factory titles.

Indeed. I tried them a while ago but I was like, wtf is this? What do you like about them?

I just finished Re; Birth 3, having previously finished 1 and 2. I've gotten started on Megadimension VII.
The characters, the writing, the grind, the sense of progression... Some people actually hate it with a passion. I have fun though.
The old standards:
Mother Trilogy
Final Fantasy series
Mana
Chrono
Trails
Persona
Dragon Quest

Masterpieces, all.

Idk about the writing, maybe it wasn't too bad. I mostly remember the ultra simple, square, pre-PS1 era level design. There are more games which are like that, for example Scarlet Nexus (which I also didn't like) and Tales (I sort of liked Arise), but none so bad as Nep. Idk which one it was though.

Edit: I think it was this one. It's not just the level design, it's just so obviously a GAME. By which I mean, the opposite of immersive. And I think it was boring.

Yes. i have them on ps5 and its fine i think, thats where i first played them....Although Disgaea 2 is a pain to control (3 is only psp,1 got remade) since then the controls have been updated and its not a battle.

I recommend disgaea 4 or 5. Im not into this artstyle usually but its well written not childish, funny and the music is really great. Ive looked up the music because i was really impressed. The gameplay is where it shines though, its just fun. You can make it as easy or hard as you want and it just works:] ha really fun game

The Legend of Heroes has like 10 or 12 games, no idea if they are related at all or are self contained stories.

Also something that didn't convince me was that legend of heroes kinda looks like those "harem" stories thats 1-2 male characters and 1000 females everywhere, lots of fanservice and bikini stuff in the artwork and screenshot sections, dont get me wrong i dont mind that but ill like something more focused on adventure, sword and sorcery, fantasy and great stories more than fanservice.

Yes it looks fun. I have a Steam Controller now so I can try it like that as well.

The Grandia remastered collection (2 games). Two of the best JRPGs ever made. I rate them up there with Final Fantasy 7 and 9.

Both are really sweet and just all round nice wholesome tales and very well written.

First, take note that I didn't list RB1 and RB2. I considered RB1 to be borderline boring, but still gave it a thumb-up. RB2 got a thumb-down.

So, how can I give RB2 a thumb-down, and actually recommend RB3 -- aren't they the same game? The thing is -- story is an important factor for me. I like the world, the characters, and if Idea Factory wants to do it, they can do pretty good stories. And that's where RB3 and VII won me.

Neptune herself can be a big factor in this, if Idea Factory lets her out -- out of the regular cast, she's easily my favorite. Her human and HDD personalities are quite different -- but they both work in her favor. If the story makes use of it.
