Why are online gaming communities so toxic?
Before you say anything, I have this to say. I'm not a terrible player, but I'm not a gaming elitist in any way, I'm simply a friendly player that plays offline or online games and tries to make a fun and enjoyable experience out of any game.

But every time I join in a online multiplayer game, it can quickly turn into a dreadful experience because of one single thing. No, it's not the graphics or gameplay..... It's the people that play them.... It seems that in online gaming communities there's always a large percentage of people that play to win no matter what, they'll get angry and barbarically insult anyone that isn't as good as them, or they just want to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s online because they know that if they try to pull off that kind of stunt in front of another gamer that involves insulting them to no end, they know they're going to get their teeth kicked in and end up with a black eye.

What happened to the respect people used to have for other gamers while they competed in a multiplayer match back in the time where you had to physically sit alongside your opponents and them alongside you in order to play a multiplayer match.

Have any of you people encountered these types of issues in which some multiplayer games are turned into terrible experiences by the game's own fan base?

El mejor juego que se ha imbentado a sido el csgo debido a se realeza a la hora de jugar y a la competitividad de los jugadores que participan en el competitivo:steamhappy:

little kids on csgo and h1z1 started the toxicity..

Way off, the first game I started to notice a change was Delta Force 2.

I was a clan member at the time and very gradually the games started to get worse, insults from other clans, cheating accusations. etc.

The more popular it became the worse it got, same as most games I guess. Good and bad in every game but never make the mistake that it's only kids, some of these people are grown men, I use that term very loosely.

:Teddy_talk: Yes, kids do come online and mess around, but I believe the annoying majority are men in their late twenties up to mid-forties who are fairly "unpleasant"
sooo just because I'm a woman I can't raise hell and troll everyone in an online game? T__T

Fairly unpleasant isn't a term I'd use, nasty horrible individuals is closer to it, they seem to think it's ok to speak to people like garbage yet meet that same person in the street and they'd be nice and polite, the internet, free pass to treat people like something you stepped in.

Thankfully they are the minority depending on the game :)

Thread ressurection. 9 month gap on the previous page. Not that there's anyone wrong with the thread. The meaness could be even worse. What if you're playing on something like TeamSpeak and they cursed at you over your headphones. Real life audio verbal bashing right in your ear.

No you cannot. As everyone knows, there are no females on the internet. :steammocking:

I'm surprised that people are still active on this thread lol. Either way, yeah....Most of online gaming has basically degraded itself to a swearing competition.

Personally i found the golden age of gaming communities was more in the private server days, where a server had a large queue of returning players who would riducule or straight up kick toxic players. Servers are less community driven and more dynamically instanced to compesate for server load. So you don't have the admin and his pals making sure noone's wrecking the mood.

As for the reason for toxicity. Some players don't understand that more than 1 approach can work. If you don't follow the exact forumula to win that they read up on, then they see you as a cyst, despite the fact that this usually implies they lack versatility.

And beyond that there is the real world influence. Gaming is an escape for, i dare to say, most. So not everyone thinks of it as "i'm a gamer, and part of the culture" as much as "♥♥♥♥ work, i need to frag ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" Competetive games with short term matches are ideal for these kinds of gamers, who will likely only return to the one game, so there becomes a potency of people who don't and won't care about the other gamers, and are only there to compensate for ♥♥♥♥ in life.

The solution is to cherry pick good gamers, and build communities. Then you can bypass most other people.

I agree, dedicated private servers beat public servers any day of the week when it comes to keeping toxic players out.

My opinion is because a large portion of gamers are either young and therefore immature, or grown ups who never grew up and are basically still young mentally and therefore immature. Of course there are exceptions to this and I won't even claim to be one, I'm guilty at times too and am not proud of it. Also, large chunk of gamers are isolated socially lacking unhappy individuals who use gaming for escapism, so it's a way to feel important while also taking out inner unhappiness upon others. Kind of psychology 101 stuff, but it's true.

I'll also add that I think everyone who visits forums and message boards has at least at some point been attacked and so it creates a defensiveness or almost vengefulness at times. There have been times someone posts something and I've looked for what I see as wrong and make sure to comment on that instead of something positive. Again, I've been part of the problem too, but trying to be honest about it. Myself I'm trying to work on being less like that.

Fair point. I love how long this discussion has been. Never expected it to be months long lol.
