Is steam willing to provide a windows 10 key to continue being able to run my purchase games on Windows 7 ?? I'm not in a position to afford Windows 10 atm ??

If the push is to have everyone in the World come up to Windows 10 throughout all platforms on the net etc, then it should be provided as a free platform just like Google or any other who wants them to use their product to have control etc .. ??

Microsoft provided free upgrades to Win8 from Win7, later free upgrades from Win8 to Win10. Your fault for not taking those.

You can upgrade your Windows 7/8/8.1 machine for free without any charges to Windows 10, and if your machine is Windows 11 compatible, even "for free" to upgrade to Windows 11.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 share same license pool.

Once upgraded, your Windows 7/8/8.1 license key is permanently converted. For Free!

Process is really easy. All you need is an empty 8 GB USB stick. Check that link which I given above. A clear tutorial. Get Windows 11 Media Creation Tool. That link is also on that page.

Once your USB is ready and set with all stuff followed by that tutorial, restart your machine by holding down the SHIFT key to enter the install/recovery menu which is shown at 02:40.

Really all you have to do is get a blank hdd and a free copy of win 10 and install it on the new drive and try it out. I don't foreseeing you having any problems. You don't like it or have that niche hardware that don't work then plug back in your windows 8.1 drive. No harm no foul.
