Valve has to update the software that Steam uses. One of those happen to be Chromium and they dropped support for Window 7 and 8 in January of this year. Valve waiting to update Steam until a year latter, in order to give users time to update or find an alternative OS.
Yes, it sucks, but that is how it has always been with technology.
I will uninstall steam Yesterday, if they do that and give me the good .exe files.
steam dropped support for them too
And if you have your license for Win7 just use it in the install of Win10(Microsoft still allows it) and that costs nothing. I only worry about your older hardware not being able to run it.
If they do this, EVERY game not created for Windows 10 should be made DRM-free. Or there should be a stripped-down client for older OSes that still allow their customers to access their purchases. In my opinion, the key reason for this is because Chrome started the trend of locking out those who don't upgrade. Steam seems to be wagering that the people who refuse to upgrade will not be enough of a deterrent to merit the development of a "Steam basic", and considering how frequently their terms and conditions change, I'm sure they planned for this. Nonetheless, I predict there will be a lawsuit or two and they're deserved.
Do not sell people 45 year old games then turn around and tell them what operating system to use.
Upgrade to Windows 10 and if you have the HW to windows 11 go for that.
Windows 11 have a lot of nice features. Just look at "Linux Windows Subsystem" a really nice feature IMO.
Take the dive and get the latest Windows your system support.
nope
so far, not a one of my games cannot be played on linux
i do not like win 10 and have been using linux as my full time gaming for a bit now
dual boot and try it before bashing, as running linux through the command lines has not been a thing for quite some time
Wine is a soros (hungarian) idea of "windows compatibility".
Make my computer run my games in Linux and I'll believe it, till then, NOT.
Console command is a real thing for Linux users that don't like GUI and not gaming.
i know what it is
you say it like it is a requirement or you will jack up your pc
it is not and you will not
again, not sure when the last time you tried it was, but i have my 70+ year old dad using a linux computer, and he has no troubles at all
no clue what you did to ruin your dual boot, but it is a simple process that can be run completely by the installer
again, something i have done many times, when playing around with the different distros
and whatever proton has done to make wine run so smoothly, i do not know, but it is running everything in my library, including mmo's like gw2, eso, dcuo and others
if you are not willing to try, that is on you, but valve has given people a choice and completely opened gaming on linux
It's just luck that I've been putting some money aside to replace components, but It's still going to take until december to buy it all because it requires windows 11 to support the software the hardware needs.
