The limit of 1000 has not only being confirmed by Valve twice but it's also shown on the level experience calculator statistics, there is no level further than 1000
LOL
Nothing will happen once one person gets there... but when THREE do...

Inside a perfectly normal office building in Bellevue Washington, Valve headquarters. It is a dark and stormy day, which is to say it's perfectly normal. Lousy stupid northwest Washington weather. A few Valve employees gather around a workspace as an employee wheels it into place and begins hooking it up to work with the group they just formed. They casually chat with each other before they begin their new project.
"Hey guys, someone actually hit level 1000."
"Oh really? No kidding?"
"Yeah, that's pretty impressive. But, we don't have any levels beyond that for them."
"Ehh, once I get my work station hooked up, I'll generate another 1000 levels worth of badges."
"Sounds good. I'm going to head out and get us some doughnuts."
"Oh, can you bring me some coffee while you're at it?"
"What's wrong with the office pot?"
"I don't know, it's just not very good. It always tastes a little bit funny."
"I've noticed that too, do you think something is wrong with the pot?"
"Maybe."
"Ok So that's 1 box of doughnuts and what kind of coffee did you want?"
"It doesn't really matter, why don't you get me whatever you usually like."
"All right, see you in a few."
And thus, 1000 new level badges were created and there were doughnuts to be had for all, and coffee for that one person who doesn't like the office coffee.
I mean, most of PD's games have ZERO hours played. When do you think he's gonna get around to playing Putt Putt saves the Zoo? (These are actually great games for little kids though)
Buying an expensive painting is one thing. It does nothing but sit on the wall but that is all a painting does but games are meant to be played. They serve no other purpose otherwise. It just seems silly to buy games for no other reason than to be able to say, "I own a bejillion games." especially when they're digital and you don't even have a cool box to show off.
It's like those poor toys in Toy Story...but worse.
That is why I am imploring Palm Desert to journey with Putt Putt, save the zoo, travel through time and go to the moon.
I bought into the premise of steam for the ease of buying and playing games with friends. A simple social network. Now it's just a spastic gold dig- all the perils and cheese of TF2 hats but with the added insult of elitism that stems from how many hours your spend mining. There's something odd about btc and ltc miners- that frustration and desperation. Combine that with the spastic TF2 junkie. That's what Steam Trading Card system is trying to make us all into.
Achievement frenzy already places an unnatural emphasis on the wrong aspects of gameplay- grinding. The item/hat crazy teaches speculation and getting ahead of others by all means; hyper-capitalism.
Steam Trading Cards finally combines both of these things into one lesson for gamers, that your time is worthless. Gaming is work, and rewards are arbitrary and luck based. You need to get ahead, play the market. You're not here for games and socialization. You're here to accumulate petty rewards by working hard to hype up the system. Think of how much minimum wage is, then think of the work you'd have to do launching games you arn't actually in the mood to play just to get some little trinket or game you could have just bought outright and waste much less time.
Sure young kids with no jobs and free time could play the system, but then wouldn't they be better off playing the GAMES? If they arn't in the mood to game or interact with friends then go do something else. Don't rot away here and invest time off your life for things of imaginary value.
Anywho, Steam leveling is pointless. Everyone knows that; it's nothing more than another activity that some enjoy and spend money on. Some like it, some don't. Nothing more, nothing less. Steam isn't forcing anyone to do it. A level two account has the same ability as a level 102 account. Aside from cosmetic changes, there's no benefit from throwing money at digital trading cards. Anyone who feels elitist for it is just moronic and would find something else to put themselves on a pedestal if cards didn't exist.
Its always been like that.
You literally have a screenshot showcase at the top of your profile. The old profile pages (the old old ones, been on Steam 12+ years) were bare bones. Now, you have showcases for screenshots, artwork, groups, items, you can post a manifesto of text if you want to and more.
Achievements are only shown on recently played games. Profile level is just a little circle/octagon/whatever on the corner of your profile. It only means as much as you want it to. The new profile pages put way more emphasis on players. The old ones were just basically "Hey, I'm Bob. The end."
Because a screenshot showcase shows what...? That's right, a SCREENSHOT. Some content that >I< created, not some unnecessary ♥♥♥♥. Note that I've unlocked multiple more "showcases" but chose not to use them, as it is just very annoying to view someones bloated profile, showing crap about badges and marketdeals that you don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about.
Yes the new profiles are, in part upgrade,s but the new profiles could've been so much better, instead we ended up with steam itself becoming a "minigame" only the soul purpose of that game is how much money you can waste on meaningless transactions.
Like, seriously? A badge has multiple levels, yet you can only get HALF a level from playing, the rest is from giving Valve money they don't deserve. The entire thing is just bollocks.
Just because somebody else epeens about profile level or number of games or badges doesn't mean you have to. Not being level 5000 and owning every game on Steam doesn't detract from my player experience.
Palm Desert doesn't even play the majority of the games he owns. He owns all of the games in the Putt Putt series, which is a game for like 5 year olds.
So like I said, your profile level or how many games you own only matters if you make it matter.
I like the ideas of levels and such, but it should not just be a reward for wasting time and money.
