Workshop Rating System Unfair?
So recently, I posted something on to the Steam Workshop.

It has been there for a little more than a week, and has now obtained a star rating.
I assume that a star rating appears once enough people have rated the Workshop item.
The problem is that the star rating does not seem to reflect the ratings given by the users.

In my case, there are 29 total ratings, and 27 of the are thumbs up. Making a 93% positive rating. However, the star rating that appears is 3/5 stars, implying that the rating is something like 50% to 60% positive. I wouldn't normally mind, but the day after the star rating appeared, the views on the item droppped drastically. :steamsalty:

Why is this system built like this? Has my item just not been given enough time for a proper star rating, is the star rating based on something else, or is the entire thing not meant to accuratly reflect the positive/negative ratio?

You also have down votes to even it out. You dont have 29 up and 0 down for 5 stars.

I have 24 up votes and 1 down vote = 3 Stars. I feel your pain.

I believe it is an attempt to prevent people using their friends to mass up vote their workshop item.

Basically until you get to more than a certain number of votes it is difficult to see whether the negative votes are an anomaly or not.

So it works something like:

<20 votes no rating
<100 votes 1 star (all negative), 3 star (some of each), 5 star (all positive)
<500 votes all 5 options open up but 5 star still requires much more than 80 percent positive.
Eventually at some number of votes it goes to exactly the 20 percent per star you would expect.

The balance for the rating is off until you get closer to 100 people. After that, it starts to work out better. Happened woth two of my mods.

Rating becomes fair after 200 votes
When my mod had 27+ and 1- it had 3 stars
When it had 28+ and 1- = 4 stars
Now it has 177+ and 8- = 4 stars (still, 96% are not equivalent to 4 stars)
And I never saw an addon with 5 stars and less than 200 total ratings

My mod currently has 25+ and 0- but it only has 3 stars, which is a bit ridiculous.

Regardless I'm grateful for everyone that has rated and enjoyed my mod, even if Steam doesn't reflect it.

Hmmm. My mod has 24 ratings so far. I guess I'm 1 vote away from disappointment. 3 is the new 5!

25 ratings, 100% positive, 3/5 stars.
Yo, how do you check how many upvotes and downvotes you got?

I have 25 rates, all +ve. On the main workshop page my mod has 4 stars, but when you click on it to view in detail, it has 3 stars! This system seems a bit odd...

This is probably true, but when the rating becomes fair after 200 votes, why do the stars show up earlier? A mediocre 3 stars rating can discourage people to subscribe you. And aftter spending countless hours in creating a map or an addon this is just rediculous.
