Ubisoft games don't work anymore
I bought assassin's creed chronicles china and can't start it. I tried everything, I google for hours, somebody fixed it by reinstalling the last version of uplay, somebody with other minor weird fixes. I tried everything, nothing worked.

And with sad surprise, I noticed the other games don't work either. I installed Valiant hearts and that game has the same exact problem. I launch the game, my steam profile goes for a couple seconds 'in game' and then nothing. In the task manager I can see the process starting (the game .exe) and then goes away.

If I launch the games from uplay, it goes anyway through steam. If I launch the games from their exe inside their folders, it goes through steam and does the same, always.

I am really stuck.....many people had this problem already years ago (and many people are having this problem right now with chronicles china). I hoped I would find here some other weird fix that could fix my problem.....I really can't explain this behaviour steam / uplay.

I can explain it. Poorly written software.

Like when you load up Steam for the first time in a day and nothing happens. You don't even see Steam running in the Task Manager. Just completely unresponsive. Then if finally shows up in the Task Manger and sits there doing nothing. End Task it, restart Steam and it finally works. More than likely the idiots at Steam who write their software haven't a clue, and it is rather obvious when those fools can't acknowledge that there software was even started after clicking on it. It's software 101 and Steam has failed miserably.

Ubisoft is shutting down all games, because they need ressources for the new Watchdogs 2 desaster...Oo And agree with 2ugly, Ubisoft is poorly written and they take bugs from one to another version and give users the fault with problems. Best is to ask in their forums but they enjoy it often to ignore userquestions, sometimes for months ~

Try starting uplay directly and using it to start one of the games.

Is your Uplay client set to always online?

Not sure this can help, but there was a thread once where I fould something interesting about some Ubisoft games. Maybe give this a look....because of what you said about people having the problem for years is what triggered this in my head...

Original post by me in this thread...

formatting the drive as MBR does seem to help the user that made the post. The former was in GPT, according to his post there.

EDIT..Originally posted by Assassin...

"Here is the solution. Just figured it out and now its working for me. Format the secondary drive as MBR instead of GPT and then install the games. That did it for me. "

Assassin seems to explain it more in the first post of this thread...

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/174005-fix-games-crashing-when-installed-on-secondary-drive/

"The Reason for the Problem:

The problem here is that the crash will occur if you install the game onto a volume that is managed by Windows Storage Space in Windows 8/8.1. I have also tried using Diskpart and the default Windows Partitioning Wizard but under Windows 8.1 Update 1 the operating system any volume formatted using those tools will automatically be managed by Windows Storage Space which will again cause the crashing problems.

The Solution:

Duh? Don't use Windows Storage Spaces to manage your drives or use diskpart to format your drives. To set up my drives I used a trial ofa software from Stablebit called Drive pool. But you can use any other software to format and setup your drives. I used Drivepool because I could not come up with any alternative. If anyone knows of them please post below and I will add them to the thread. "

Interestingly enough, the same games are mentiond in his sidenote there as you the OP mention in your title.

"Sidenote:

Most games that are affected by this are Ubisoft games likes FC3 FC3 Blood Dragon, All AC games except liberation, Splinter Cell etc. But there are other titles like Saint's Row and L.A Noire that seem to be affected with this problem as well. Also don't turn this into a "let's hate Ubisoft bandwagon."

This thread would have probably been better served in the help and tips forum, but do you have Windows 8 or 8.1 by chance ?

If this looks promising, read the rest of that original thread if you wish.

ok that's something I didn't find yet. But I must say everything used to work on this computer (same windows, same storage drives, same uplay, same steam). I don't know when it stopped, I noticed it with this assassin's chronicles.

By the way, I changed my whole hardware some days ago (motherboard, cpu etC). You don't really need to format drives in this case, everything is working properly, all games, 3dmark etc, everything supersmooth.......maybe uplay is tied to hardware ID (like windows) and there is no way to re-activate it?

It's the only thing that changed since I last played uplay games.....this thing is making me crazy. Not understanding why it would not work makes me crazy. I don't really care about assasssin's chronicles, I could just ask for a refund.

I'm assuming you tried verifying the game files. Also if you are using Steam client beta, you should try opting out. I'm assuming you have installed the latest Uplay client, are running Steam as administrator and have Steam and Uplay as exclusions in your anti-virus.

The following is a solution for Rainbow Six, but will work on any other game if the problem is with missing files that Steam won't acquire by verifying only.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Rainbow6/comments/3uymr7/hitting_the_play_button_on_steam_opens_uplay_and/cxiukfn

Don't use the instructions highlighted in yellow, but use the next ones that rename the game folder with "bak" added at the end

You're an idiot :steamfacepalm:

As example take the Surroundproblem in Ubisoftgames. Never fixed and give users the fault. Last example for this is FarCry Primal but the "bug" is much older...

Other Watchdogs 1 release.... 3 Month bugs, without communicate outside to the people, corrupted saves and mass of ignored and deleted posts

Thrid company spyware in their launcher up till now. Of course no statement

Jokes like, please use our supportsystem, but the system isn't working normal too for them. Waiting time 1-2 month too for a ticket reply... depends on your questions ~

And much more...there enough examples and proofs and as i wrote its the best to ask there instead of here to get a solution
