Receiveng a lot of friend request lately
Hello,

Lately I have been receiveng friend request of people that I don't even know and have some kind of ban. I reject them all. Is this for something specific like having my inventory in public or something like that? Did you guys receive this kind of random friend requests?

Have a nice day you all!

It largely depends on your activity.

If you have started to play a certain game, you may get them. Say CSGO, or any online game. Or you might get them if you've been active in a cetain forum. Basically the more presence you "put out there" in any way, the more the likelihood,.

it's not just down to having your profile public.

I've got my profile public and always have and I post like crazy on here yet I rarely get any such messages. I get quite a few friends requests from time to time though. I generally accept them all.

That's the weird thing, I do not play popular Steam games like CS:GO or DOTA 2. That's why it missed me. But I have to be honest, that friend requests was received the last week and there were not so much of them.

In case of posting in hubs, most of my posts are in this community, so, it could be.

Yeah literally ANY presence in anything can trigger it. If you've suddenyl spent more time in one place, it could be that.

Sometimes it just can be more people popping up and readin at a certain time of year too. I tend to get more requests around sale times sometimes. I guess because more people are on.

Oh, that's interesting, it could be totally random then too.

Yeah could be, but just remember that as with most things, there's TONS of reasons why this can happen.

Especially with a platform like Steam where there are many avenues of getting into communities.

Hm, I'm not sure if this is related, but I was DM'd this on Discord:

heads up, Today/Tomorrow's is a cyber attack event day called "Pridefall" which will be occurring on ALL social media platforms, including Discord. People will try to send friend requests, there will be IP grabbers, hackers, and doxxers. During this time, do not accept any friend requests or DMs, from people you don't know. Please stay safe. If you are in any servers where you do not have admin perms, do inform the owner of each server. If you own your server, please let your members know.
Or it could be you have a rare item in your inventory and scammers are trying to get at it. Or you made a post in a group that is around skins/market items.

I didn't hear about the pridefall, thanks for the info! But as a new gamer, how would a scammer get someone's rare item? (I didn't even know there were rare items on here)

Depends what you mean about how they "get" them.

If your profile is public, then anyone can view your invetory to see what's there. It's good for trading but not so much if you want to keep private.

But unless you engage in silly behaviour they can't steal it.
