No assuming is not de facto a bad thing to do. It depends entirely on what you do.

The point here is that there is no real reason to ask that is purposeful unless you're using the online servers.

So it's reasonable to assume that is the reason, and it's reasonable to address the answer on that basis.

Or the other alternative is purely "it doesn't affect you".
