Need I say more?
It's frankly better than The Van Helsing games and I rather like them. It's more fluid and a bit more cohesive too.
It's more of a slightly linear path than something like Diablo (well, I';m more referring to Diablo 3 and the end game content), but it's still well worth the cash.
borderlands 2 demands you play the game 1 specific way and no other way works passed level 40 and the exponential growth sees a white drop overpowering legionaries around that level when they are 1, maybe 2 levels apart.
borderlands 3, I have no idea, I played an hour or so on a free weekend and just got it though humble,
hellgate, while I can enjoy playing it, its a hot mess of a game
and yes, I don't care about the style of game be first person/over shoulder/top down/new/old what I am specifically looking for is just a game that takes the diablo style idea of looting, and hopefully has a level of rng that makes every item that drops potentially a best in slot, not just 'I need boots of the quick blacksmith because only those boots have an effect that synergises with the bandit ass stabber'
I honestly dont find games like these fun when they take out the element of any item can be great and instead force sets or legendaries to be the end game because at that point its no longer fun to loot anything, you effectively kill off even wanting to pick up 3-4 tiers of items
it has been a long time since I played it, if I remember right it plays like a diablo style game with more flexibility in the movement. its worth picking up on sale if you like the genre, but i dont remember its replayability or continuted play passed the story
Umm, i just go pew pew and smash smash and then stuff goes kaching. I don't read what skills do, or items. In games like this, I allways pick the items with the most "magic find" bonus and don't look into anything else. Then i go back to the pew pew and smash smash to find more bling bling.
Sometimes I want finesse, personally much more into solid RPG's with party based combat, but personally I found Borderlands very slow, so I guess you cannot please everyone all of the time. But choices do seem to be few lately, goign to grab a copy of Victor Vran at any rate.
It "lacks" the loot.
It is a VERY VERY Poor shadow of Diablo.
It's extremely short, lacks loot, lacks any real replayability, and basically lacks ANYTHING the OP wants.
I agree. If you don't know these classics, better check them out:

forget about Dre, err three thou
did the gauntlet games ever go back to being more arcade style where you go as far as you can, or did they never go back from the save system they added at some point?
but yea, gauntlet is not even close to a diablo style game,
tried going though 2 recentlyish, stopped after a while because I was grinding my face on something that should have been easy at my level but I couldn't figure out what i did wrong.
almost everything I want in these games are for sets to not be the end game and legendaries to not be the be all end all, but so often they are. I like rngesus takeing the wheel and rolling something amazeing but devs tend to tier gear in ways this is not allowed to happen. I think last epoch is suppose to make everything viable but I didnt play far enough into that yet to dive into the crafting system... honestly I see that as a double edge sword, because if crafting becomes the end game, than looting takes a hard back seat.

No it's kind of burned into the ground now. This was the last venture I'm aware of.
It went through quite a few iterations as you say, but this last one was half heartedly designed to be something like a replayable thing, but it didn't employ anything remotely like well. On top of that it didn't feel remotely finished. A few vapid levels, devoid of any meaningful content and then it's over.
Nobody in their right mind wants to replay that.
So no, sadly they never returned ... yet, and at this stage I doubt it ever will.
