How do you know what type of gamer you are?
The question is in the topic. At the moment I struggle and don't know what type of gamer I want to be. At first I thought that I am a strategic game player but at the moment and under consideration of my childhood I think I am a collector.

What kind of question is this? There is only one kind of gamer: the real kind. The one which play ALL games from ALL genres.

If you don't you are either a casual or a specialist. Nothing wrong with that but you need to call a cat a cat.
Erm, no. That's a no true scotsman fallacy.

You're right in that there is only one type of gamer - someone who plays any game at any time, however much or little.

The only label I'd ever give myself as a gamer is maybe "Always Forward" or something. I'm pretty old so I've been playing video games since the early 1980s and I've never really had a desire to play old games or games that have a "retro" feel. I get that people like those games but for me it's like "been there, done that" and I have no desire to go backwards. Not when newer games are so good.

Other than that my tastes in games change almost week to week. Sometimes I'll spend a moth playing Civilization VI and then I'll pickup Watch_Dogs Legion and spend 3 weeks playing that game. Then I'll play a digital board game for a few days before playing an RTS. I have no rhyme or reason when it comes to games.

Its normal to play lots of different genres and not be just one thing. I play pretty much a lot or little of everything except for first person shooters

Yeah, I also play games from all genres, even on dancing arcade games, the only one I'm not into are those graphic novel things, so boring.

Single player gamer. As much as I want to play with others, I have short attention span ( I play a little and then stop and watch show/ read on random google search and SM/ do other random thing in the house, and then go back to the game. R/R)

Yeah, the main drawback of playing online is that you can't pause the game and / or do other stuff, you have to be expressly sitting down there. That's why I prefer singleplayer most of the time or local multiplayer if cousins want to play at home or if I'm outdoors with friends.

Want to know what sort of gamer you are....
Simple... join the muppet thread and laugh at all the Rust non-starters and touchy feely garbage.

Theres is no Type of Gamer you can just put someone into. It depends on multiple factors, game quality being one of them. I love Shooters, but that doesnt mean i play games just because they fit that Genre. Im not a Strategy Player at all, yet theres 1-2 Strategy Games that are on a Quality Level that even attract me. Just play what you think you enjoy.

I honestly think you get better enjoyment out of gaming (and other things in life too) by either pushing yourself or going outside your comfort zone.

I was around from the start of gaming, Pong, Space Invaders and so on. I was heavily into the old arcade games of the time and certain specific home computer games. I went off them a bit during the mid 1980s as I didn't gel with games that the likes of Sega were putting out - beat em ups and all that.

I got back into them once I discovered the Playstation and was hooked again. But of course I had a few years gap where I completely was out of touch. I needed to catch back up.

And from that I found I liked FPSes somewhat, I still didn't like beat em ups at all, I already liked RPGs, and I didn't immediately go far out of that, except for racing games.

Then I noticed some of the mad and weird games being put out and thought I'd try them. They were far more fun than I expected, so it made me want to try everything. And since then I've always had a fair bit of respect for the Playstation as a whole as they tend to attract the most weird and bizarre games that just ooze fun.

Simply put - the games I've often had the most fun with are often the ganmes I would never have rationally considered.
