A good game you can play forever?
What is your favourite game you can play virtually forevevr?

A few of my examples would be;

Stardew Valley
Kenshi
Ark
Conan
No Man's Sky

No it most certainly isn't the ONLY game you can play forever.

While you absolutely can play it forever, there are THOUSANDS of games quite literally able to play for ever.

Many arcade games or any open-ended game. Minecraft for example.

I spent yesterday ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with a new emulation setup for my downstairs living room. Wanted something a bit better to deal with having my backups on so I dont' have to trawl actual consoles and games downstairs each time.

Bunged an arcade stick together with a new box and after a wee bit of testing of just a "couple" of old arcade games, it was 3am.

I've been playing them continuously for 40 years on the whole.

Of course it does entirely depend on what floats the OPs boat.

He might not specifically want an open ended game. Maybe they're cool with arcade like games where you're enticed to keep doing better, or maybe they're just cool with replaying games.

Sandbox games for me.

Over 2k+ hours in Transport Fever 1 and 2. Cities Skylines and Euro Truck Simulator 2 too. Lots of replayability for me in all of these.

Other genres: Counter Strike as my FPS of choice, Clannad - the story and artwork is that great, and Northgard and Supreme Commander as my strategy games of choice.

MMOs are a great time sink too, my favorite where I have spent 3k+ hours is Mabinogi.

For me, I'd defo agree that a lot of time I can defo sink into strictly sandbox games, but I feel a lot of the "classic" games to me that made an impression enough to replay are largely full enough for you to play them somewhat sandboxey anyway.

For example, If I get a game I love, I will try to break the ♥♥♥♥ out of it, or do stupid stuff. More than that, I will happily go round and cheat at the game to do stuff like nose in all the corners you can't normally get to.

But I think my largest enjoyment often comes not from the FIRST time I play the game (although with a solid story that does tend to be obviously the most impactful) but when I go back and go "right, now what can I do to ♥♥♥♥ around with these poor bastard NPCs?"
