How do you make Tetris an open world game?
Theoretically, what would an open world tetris game look like? What if the whole world was made of tetris blocks? I'm having trouble trying to imagine this. Can anyone figure out how to make it work? :winter2019surprisedsnowman:

No. Because you're not able to explore the world. If you play Tetris. If you were able to explore the world, you may be able to make it open world. But I am not sure how, because then Tetris will no longer be Tetris, and you would be playing something else.

I would do it like this:
You could have players collect Tetris blocks in an open world, while one player has to stack those blocks, making them compete against each other. The more Tetris blocks are collected and queued in the open world, the faster they will be falling down in the Tetris world. And the more difficult Tetris blocks the players in the open world are able to collect, the more difficult it becomes to stack them. When rows of Tetris blocks are destroyed in tandem in the Tetris world, that has an impact on the open world, increasing the difficulty there, for example, in regard to the time limit in which the Tetris blocks are to be collected.

So, the best Tetris players, will be the forming the most difficult worlds, in which the players have to play or cooperate faster, and those Tetris players will be more difficult opponents. And vice versa, the same is true for the other players, who play in the open world, who make it more difficult to play Tetris, if they are skilled at playing the open world game, and obtain the most difficult Tetris blocks within the time limit, set by the Tetris player.

Now we only have to find a mathemagician, capable enough to create this. :p2aperture:

The whole world IS made of Tetris blocks.

They're just too small to see.

Well, that or Terraria. Probably more Terraria, since 2D.

I'm imagining a pokemon-like 'capture the parts/earn the pieces' and use them aggressively'. There is a competitive mode tetris, that would work to integrate an open-worldish setting.

Tetris must have a background image or theme or something like that, you create an open world 3D environment to put it as a background and according to the player's action you move it towards a direction, for example the number of lines cleared at once or the shape of the last piece used to complete a line, you assign one to up, another to down, left, right, and make the background seamlòessly scroll in those directions everytime those actions happen ingame.
