[CAUTION] NEW ACCOUNT HACK GOING AROUND
Hi,

I thought it would be best if i posted this where as many people as possible could see it. I have already contacted steam support about this matter.

There is a new way hackers are currently stealing peoples steam accounts. Currently, the way I got affected was through a friend who sent me a message asking for me to vote for his friends team on some sort of pro league tournament website. Being a nice person, a replied saying yes and he sent me a link to a website, that being elm-games (I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND VISITING IT).

To vote, the website asks you to login with steam, to which it comes up with the login page that you would except from steam, however in reality it in not actually the steam website and instead a fraud. This is a very carefully disguised phishing site and it caught me completely offguard. After inputting your steam login details to login, it immediately attempts to login using your details, in my case, it spammed me with emails and texts asking me to input a code to remove my mobile authenticator. Realizing this was extremely dodgy, i immediately closed the website and reset my password.

I AM WARNING EVERYONE! PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS HACK! MY FRIEND WHO SENT ME THE LINK ORIGINALLY HAS ALREADY HAD HIS ACCOUNT STOLEN! PLEASE BEWARE!

Lnao this is as old as steam.
If you fall for this you need to sign a pledge to never reproduce in the future.
man, some of you guys are being too harsh on OP. Anyways, I just got this message from some random friend I made several years ago, we rarely talked. Got instantly suspicious, did a quick google search and found it was some phishing scam. Basically saying, bro can you help me, vote for my CSGO team with a link, never seen this attempt before until now. Came here to see if anyone else was going through the same thing.

get an antivirus..
An antivirus doesn't protect against phishing scams.
There's different version when scams are created so its not old as many here say it is. Each different version will change from the old it might be small but the magnitude is big. Also, just because others knew it was old doesn't mean most knows it is old. The mere fact this scam hits millions means not every one knows its a scam. So, to rip on OP for this is uncalled for.

bro who are you even talking to?
I have malwarebytes lmao why did you even comment

your goal is laudable, it is just that the people who need this most are the ones that will see it too late.

This is kinda funny to me, in a "being a jerk" way.
It feels like I'm in a sort of "groundhog" day whenever I see these types of posts.

It starts something like:
-This is a new dangerous thing, watch out!
Then people say it's not new and have been going on for years and to that the person say.
-Well it's new to me, and I want to help people so that they don't have to experience this.
To which people say that every other person before has done the same and yet that person making a post is here doing the same thing.
-But it's better to have more posts about this thing.
The other ones said that aswell.
-But not everyone uses this forum all the time.
People heard that one aswell.
-But Steam/Valve should do something.
Valve has done "a lot", and then people post what has happened.
-But what if they did X and Y.
Well everyone before you said the same thing aswell.
-But maybe...
Others have said it before.
-Yeah, but...
They also said what you're going to say now.
-But...
And that.
-I...
And that.
-Help people are controlling my mind! I can feel it inside my head!
No escape.
-What are you doing here, is this a cult?!
No prisoners.
-This is creepy.
We know...
-Ohh boy...
This is fortold.
-Now this just sounds silly.
Sorry.
-It's okay, can... can I go now?
You were never here, you're just a shadow from the one before, and he was a shadow of the one before... And before.. and before.
-Well I'm going to... go now...
please don't go...
-What did you say?
Nothing, nothing...
-Oooookay, well bye.
-Bye!
-Wait what's that!! Ahhh!

Yah, and the saddest part is that this "aaah" is very often a new "shiny" website which they just have to use because it'll make their Steam / Steam market experience so much better... and then the whole thing starts all over again.

To be somewhat serious for a moment. But I wholeheartly believe that the people falling for this is being "scammed" because they want to show off before their friends, gaming or not. And in their haste they forget what really can happen.

That and not having the knowledge that people do try and scam people more often than not. From my experience. I'm just happy that I'm not into this but I could see myself being stupid and fall for it if I were a couple decades younger. :P

Thought before action, not the other way around. I believe that's the saying. :)
I never open link but my account got stolen (2nd) i dont know to reveal the hijacker email nor retrieve it back
