Every game created with Unity engine crashing my PC
All games created with Unity are crashing. No problem with games from UE4. Cant find solution anywhere.
My specs
Windows 10
Radeon R9 270x
I5 4960
16gb Ram

"-force-d3d9" trick doesnt work

Games crash randomly, sometimes 2 min into gameplay sometimes 1hour into gameplay.
When game crashes my screen locks up with a pattern on the screen and a continuous buzzing sound.

That does not happen with Unreal engine games.

Ctrl-Alt-Del doesnt work. PC needs to be rebooted. Its been going like this for a very long time now.
Its driving me crazy. So many good Unity games I cant play.

We are in 2022 and this problem is sill there. Recently i wanted to replay Blasphemous but i was getting this unity error. I got the exact the same unity error message in another game, The pedestrian, two weeks ago, but I did not attach any importance to this because I thought that my laptop was too weak, but when I got the error message in Blasphemous I was surprised because I played it in January 2020 and everything worked fine.

So I downloaded two more games that werr made on Unity - inside and dusk. Inside crashes right away, although it worked perfectly on a laptop with an old m-series video card a year and a half ago. Dusk freezes on the first frame and while i can hear some sounds, after a few seconds the game crashes. While i can use integrated videocard in Blasphemous, the other games work awful and slow ahen i use integrated gpu.

All drivers are fresh, windows updated, have never used citrix and dont have it on laptop. I dont really know what causes the crash, because other no-Unity games work.

Has anyone tried my fix? I just got MSI afterburner and legit it all works now. I even managed to clock decent hours in Outer Wilds as proof.

I did try underclock before but it didn't seem to help in my case (1060 3GB). How much did you underclock? And did you underclock the memory also?

1755 to 1500 and no change of memory.

kindly got to here

1) open system settings

2) go click the apps

3) scroll down all the way and check each and every single microsoft visual C++ there

if you see the word "modify" not gray out, kindly click modify and then click repair.

most games on Steam requires non-corrupted Microsoft Visual C++ to run and play.

try to underclock your cpu, not only gpu

I'll give this a shot. I'll come back and edit my comment with results tomorrow.

Question - has anyone here actually tried to ask about this issue on any of teh Unity driven forums out there?

Yep. The responses were quite, umm, eloquent and more than a few violated Unity's community guidelines on trolling, vulgarity and harassment.

Contacting Unity's customer support via email, and submitting a summary report of the technical details via email, tends to get better results because they're paid to handle these matters. Asking Unity's community forums is about as useful as peeing into the wind.
Ah I did wonder if it'd be a bit, shall we say, fruity?

Shame that, as that would be your best bet. Any other dev forums you can find out there? Perhaps someone else here can offer suggestions?

Yep. Can't really blame them tho... ask stupid questions, win stupid prizes. It's like the Microsoft Community, only slightly more snark.

I'm sure Steam's got a few Unity groups still running around. If the search results don't pan out then I guess you'll just have to take your chances with the community forum.

The Unity forums are for Development focused discussion, not customer tech support for the games they do not own. You would be better off contacting the devs of the game issue specifically, since they are the ones who would have much better understanding.

I think you should try to be a bit more understanding about the forums you use and appreciate the help you can find, solving issues like this needs patience and problem solving on your end. It's not everyone's responsibility to 'fix it' because something doesn't work, keep trying and good luck!

The issue here is that Game developers might have no idea what UNITY has done, and my understanding is that UNITY has done upgrades, that now has f*ed up their customer products, because they have "optimized" their product for newest GPUs, while most of gamers are not using latest GPUs. Here is the main issue, why it is problem of UNITY and not a game - it is offering a product for game developers - UNITY should test how their product is behaving with GPUs, because that is what they are selling.

Anyway, I had crashes in game, that was running very well before new patches(that includes newest UNITY patches)and the solution to stop crashes was to lower resolution. Apparently UNITY was not optimized for my GPU and forced it to the max - just as if it was newest GPU, and because GPU could not do anything at the requested level, and started to give out errors, UNITY just closed WHOLE game.

I have been having trouble with Unity-based games for a while now. My rig:

Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X 3.9GHz @ 4.15GHz Boost
CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5
RAM: (2x) Mushkin Ridgeback 16GB @ 2933MHz (1466MHz/channel)
Video: AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition 16GB HBM
Video Drivers: Radeon Software 22.1.2
Video Cooler: Raijintek Morpheus II Core Edition
M.2: Intel SSD 6 512GB
SATA: (2x) T-Force Vulcan 1TB SSD
OS: Windows 10 Professional, up to date.

When the crashes first started, they were in MTG Arena (not in Steam) and Children of Morta. I recently installed Insurmountable from Epic Games because it was free; it also crashes. These crashes completely freeze my computer, hard reset required, The screen freezes, sound stops, and no input is recognized from mouse or keyboard. (Except in some instances where I was running in windowed mode. Then only the game would crash.) They occur sometimes right away, sometimes after 10-15 min, sometimes 30. These games never stay open more than 30 min.

It's hard to diagnose because the freezes don't even allow for entries in the Windows error logs. Event Viewer has no clues for me.

I normally run my GPU undervolted, since the Vega FE runs extremely hot with default power settings, even with aftermarket cooling. In order to do this, I have to enable gaming drivers from the registry, since Pro drivers have no controls. With these settings applied, the card absolutely crushes anything I throw at it in 1440p FreeSync. Combined with AMD precision boost overdrive going to 4.15GHz, I really have no problems with any games. Rise of the Tome Raider benchmark is ~90 FPS. EXCEPT UNITY ENGINE GAMES.

At first, I did not realize that it was just Unity games, so I went down a very deep rabbit hole looking for problems with my system. Memtest 86 ran 15 passes (that took over 3 days while I was on vacation) with no errors. I have verified safe temperatures with HWinfo. Voltage with PBO is high (1.4V), but the CPU never gets over 50C. Windows diagnostics can't find anything wrong.

Once I figured out that it was only Unity engine games doing this, I began digging deeper into the forums. If you're reading this, you've also read all the other random "fixes" that people have come up with. Here's the list of what I've tried:
-Disabling all overlays from other applications.
-Running as Administrator.
-Disabling AMD PBO.
-Disabling XBox Game bar
-Disabling and/or uninstalling any antivirus software
-Turning off undervolt, setting card to default.
-Reinstalling games
-Reinstalling drivers (DDU)
-This PC does not have Citrix.
-All mobo/chipset drivers are up to date

Here's what I haven't tried:
-RMA my CPU (someone with this issue did this and claimed it fixed their problem)
-Different video card (don't have one)
-Reinstalling Windows

TL;DR I can play non-Unity games ALL DAY in 1440p FreeSync with no issues. Unity games crash my system within 30 min, even windowed at 1080p 60 FPS limited.

Did you try my suggestion (disable Hypervisor)?

@ Hypernova I'm not using Hypervisor or any other kind of emulation/VM.
