4th Gen Intel processors still worth it?
Hello guys. I want to upgrade my CPU. I currently have an Intel i5 4690. And, as you might already know, the socket is 1150. I don't really want to change the motherboard since I am on a limited bugdet, and I was thinking if the 4th generation of i7's is still worth it. My i5 is doing fine, but it has some issues on some games and it's quite annoying and there are a few games coming out this year that I'd like to play without lag or frame drops on decent graphics. I was thinking about 4790k, it seems decent but I wanna hear some opinions. The only 5th generation that fits the socket is the 5775C. What do you guys think? Are they still worth it, or should I upgrade the motherboard too and buy a 6th or 7th gen?

I own a 4790k myself and can recommend it. Even today it is still a fantastic cpu.

id say the 4th gen i7 is still worth it especially considering that in order to upgrade to 6/7th gen you would need a new mobo and new ddr4 ram.

if you've got the money get a new mobo, ram, and proc if not just get the i7.

I'm minded to agree with the posters above. My last gaming rig still had an i7-2600k in it and I was advised by the folks in the Hardware and OS subforum that I could have got another year or two out of it. Shame some of the other components blew - it wasn't worth the expense of getting it repaired.

CPU isn't really important for gaming today anymore. If you have a multi-core, you will be fine for the soming years until there is significant progress AND consoles have adopted it already.

I know what you're saying, but I'm inclined to believe that my pc has a bottleneck and it's all due to the CPU. I upgraded my GPU but the difference wasn't very noticeable because the CPU has more work to do because the GPU is demanding, and instead of a an upgrade, it was more like a downgrade. I am not 100% satisfied with how it runs the games now. Although I could leave aside the "airs" and lower the graphics. But I'm a pretentious ♥♥♥♥. Basically, what I'm saying is that there needs to be a nice balance between the CPU and the GPU and currently my pc isn't very balanced. Upgrading to a 4th gen i7 is my only option right now. Thanks for your answer.
