Far Cry games are much more consistent - longer, open world games with lots of exploration and fighting in open areas, with a much larger range of characters to meet and interact with. The downside is that all the Far Cry games *are the same*. All of the mechanics, whether they're 'use a wrench or use a wooden bow or use a car' are the same in every single one of them. While there's something to be said about consistency, they are also very samey.
FEAR games are linear, shorter by far, hardly open-worldly but there are still some fun bits to explore in the corridor-based levels. The characters are quite limited in terms of who you're going to meet, they all have scripted dialog sequences and you don't otherwise interact. The storytelling is 100% different from Far Cry, but it does tell a compelling and rather bleak story. The shooting is quite fun, and the enemy AI in Fear 1 is still among the best I've ever seen.
They cannot really be compared, beyond 'one works as a linear psychological horror corridor shooter', and 'the other works as an open world conquest-based world with story woven into a large area'.
Radically different games.
It's like screaming that root beer is better than a bagel. Sure, they're both foods, but they're not really comparable.
Fear on the other hand was amazing when it first came and their like super scary but the graphics are dated and each time I have went back to them the only one I still seem to enjoy is Fear 2 even Fear 3 got a little boring after a while I never bothered to finish it.
dunno just my thoughts
If you wanna compare shooting mechanics and AI, then FEAR easily wins. Much more fast paced and challenging too.
So, unless you have the community patch, it's almost not fair to compare because the god-like aimbots in the game are a real turn off.
The first Far Cry is good until you get to the mutants, then it's just annoying enemy spam, piss poor ai, and god tier aim on most enemies, it's the worst of the main series IMO.
I still consider FEAR a must play for FPS fans and horror fans due to the amazing combat, fantastic AI, and great atmosphere/scares.
F.E.A.R. is arguably the better of the two FPS games. It's got a very solid story, it is very linear but I feel that adds to the quality of the gameplay. I'm actually going to be playing it here in about an hour.
Farcry does have some good stuff to it. The first game, not really. And leave second game in the franchise had some incredibly annoying gameplay mechanics. If we were talking about farcry 3, that would be closer of a selection. One of the best bad guys ever. But then the middle of the game happens.
Yep I vote fear
Its athmosphere is good as well, but i never found it scary at all, and i cant even play horror games, though i cant play anything else either.
The expansions were at times even better than the base game, but iirc they're not canon.
Only real con Fear has is the gun animations, and melee.
Idk what FC1 has going for it, but i never heard anyone recommending it. Still, its probably better than the second game.
But then, you had to constantly be locating or buying malaria pills so you don't just fall down dead. That's not so bad right?
Well it's going to be very hard for you to earn that money with your weapons breaking every 2 seconds. 95% of the weapons you find in the field are literal junk. Fixing them is expensive, and buying new versions of the same weapon is quite a bit too.
Note: simulation is different opposite to just a 'walking sim', I think.
