Scammers and Hackers are in town, Beware.
In short.
Some one is going around stealing accounts and use friendship as a way to get into those accounts.

How it's start is a friend telling you that he/she accidentally report your account for purchasing something illegal but it's a mistake. Sad story blah blah. after a while he will tell you to be-friend somebody on steam. Look like a Steam Dev with all of the fancy detail

You end up be-friending this person and he tell you that there been a report on your account and tell you could be banned or lock if you don't work with this person. ( Dev will NEVER use fear against you)

He asked for screenshots of the whole chat between you and the friend. see it's a "Mistake" and to clear this mistake you gotta show your purchased history with your user name. all back to 2020 to 2019

Then he will ask if your email is 123******@g***.c*** a detail anyone could fine if you need to restart your email. Then he tell you to send him the code so he could close this ticket that been reported on my account.

Now he need your account details, 10 mins later. your account is missing. You lost over 1k in paypal and all of your friends is getting told that you reported them for doing something.

This is a Scam
If you question him he would try to prove himself with images. such as "Steam Team member, Join blah blah time this is a real deal" or use fear against you, Like what happen to me. threatening to lock my account and it's won't be undone. Saying that i have 30 seconds to do what he say or i'm going to do this or that to you.

He ended up blocking me and remove me right away.

Please Remember
If Steam developers need anything from your account such as your history of purchase or trade, Payment, tickets, or anything. They already have the power to do that, You don't need to
show or tell anything to them.

Steam respect the players and would NEVER use fear against you. No matter what and if you asked to talk to a different person on steam, they will allow you to do this right away.

Always report the scammer and whoever is hacked, If your friend account got hacked. your better off locking that account then letting anymore damage happen to it.

Warn your friends if you know that somebody is hacked to protect them

This is my way of helping the Steam community, i'm sorry if my english and grammar ain't great.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!~

People don't read these warnings. There are hundreds upon hundreds of these kind of threads and support articles yet so, so many people are still giving away their accounts.

It's unfortunate that you wasted all this time typing this but the truth is that most don't come here until the damage has already been done.

Doesn't hurt to warn people. Don't like it, don't comment on it.

Don't forget that every single day, There is Microsoft telemarketers that call older folks every single day. That is well known and it's still happen BUT they also get shut down quickly due to warnings and people making a action about the whole deal. You can watch endless youtube videos about people trolling the scammers and having fun. highly recommended in fact. But if scammers don't move every single time a mess up happen, they will get hit by the police. So doing nothing wont fix a thing. This pose was to clear my mind but also to be a action to help even one person. i know it's common and you feel it's not making a effect but it's being heard and you know about it, in a way it's already working.

Doesn't hurt, but also doesn't work.
There are thousands of warnings, public service announcements and sob stories of victims.
Did that achieve anything preventing scams? No.
The vast majority of users doesn't ever visit discussions until something already happened.
They don't even read the official warnings from Valve in the Knowledge FAQ:
Scam FAQ (Link)
Steam Item Restoration Policy (Link)

What makes you think this thread will have more success?

Doesn't hurt to use the search feature either

I mean clearly you must have read these other warning topics prior to being scammed, right?

Also... they're not hackers, accounts don't get hacked, people get tricked into giving their credentials away. And well... those dweebs never left town in the first place, I've seen these threads and post for as long as I've been on Steam... go figure.

Really people loose their accounts to this obvious scam? I got a bridge to sell them and my friend a Nigerian prince needs some help shifting some money around and will gladly reward you if you help him out with the fees!
Scammers always been in town and set up shop next to a friend you know.

Cut the guy some slack, he tried to depict a scam method, admittedly well known to a lot, but still he put some time and effort to it, so thanks for that.

Common sense always prevents it
Tell us what we don't know already and/or people without common sense don't practice.

You've lost so many words over so little.

TL;DR: dont be gullible. There. That was easy, wasn't it?
