What makes people add a game to Wishlist but not buy it?
Do people wait for the right price? Even when the game is already on sale, they might wait for a lower price?
Maybe they wait for more reviews or any review?
Maybe they want to see the developer is updating the game?

So what makes people add a game to a wishlist but not buy it?

I put them on the wishlist and wait for sales, only have 2 goals, to get the best possible prices and to finish my wishlist until it becomes empty

Waiting for sales, waiting to see if it gets abandoned, waiting to see if I feel differently at a later time... basically it's for games I'm interested in but not quite sold on.
Probably "money". Ether the game is priced higher than the user can afford at the time they added to their wishlist or they don't think it's worth the asking price yet.

it's just a wish, you see a game -> love it -> think to buy but expensive -> wait for next sale -> when sale come you don't have money -> wait for next sale -> repeat till half life 3 and dota 3 release :lunar2019crylaughingpig: :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

A
few are on my list because want to play them but until I have memory space I can't buy them and one or 2 were not released for sale at the time I added them. And I do go through them from time to time removing those I have decided against buying, I did that only last week.

The best use for the wishlist is to import it to isthereanydeal or gg deals and find games way cheaper than Steam.

Cause some people have a buy list, and just cause something goes on sale doesn’t mean they want to purchase that particular game that moment, maybe they’re waiting for another certain game to go on sale

For me, its a matter of price & discount. I don't use the wish list for gales I may want to check out sometime, I use t for games i want to have. But I'm rather discount-sensitive, everything below 50% is too much for me unless the game is ~15€ to begin with and above that, its about discount and price . I was about to buy Shadow of the Tomb Raider last time it was on sale (60% off AFAIR), but 40€ was still to steep for me.

Bottom line is its not a game I am interested in playing right now. Be it because I am playing other things, Its not released yet, Or I am waiting for more content from the devs to be added in. Because if its a game I want to play right now, I will get it right now. But allot of the games with larger stories, or games that will get DLC, I wait for all the DLC to be released before geting the game. All the bugs are generally worked out by then and its a more enjoyable experience.

So basically the wish list is a way for me to keep track of games I am interested in, but not right now. And when I am looking for a new game, and its not in my library I can look at the wishlist. Alternativly it also allows me to purchase these games when they are on sale.

I didn't even know that recently one had to justify oneself for one's actions. Good to know! I'll buy it - someday. Usually at full price.

I wait for the right price.

Basicly a quarter of the release price. DRM games that I never being able to own are not worth more than that.

I already made the suggestion to Steam add a price field, where I can insert my target price, to be notified if the price is equal or less to that inserted price.

Maybe even with an automated purchase option.

Other people found that silly. I still think it would be a nice feature to have.

For me:

1. waiting for the right price. These days, I can wait quite a while since I have a pretty sizeable backlog of games already, and so I often only buy stuff that's discounted beyond -50% (preferably -75%) and $5 or less.

2. for Early Access games, waiting for them to get out of Early Access.

Suprised most are saying price(games IMO should actually cost more in some cases), but as a player of every genre, i think i add them more of a ways not to forget about them. As most of the games i am interested are indie, if i dont add them on release or seeing it promoted in a kickstarter, YT channel, etc. i would never find them again. The wishlist also is a great way to check sales and what i think is most important, the updates. As EVERY game today is released in EA(why day one reviews dont matter) its cool to get the update info on games you are interested(Active vs abandoned). These are the systems Steam provides no one discusses but is actually a very easy, important and effective way for players to make choices on purchases.

I also wish the followed list was integrated into the wishlist as a sort feature. My followed list usually are EA games, non released, concepts, etc. A lot of them get abandoned or dont reach funding.

To be honest, sometimes I wonder if I'm not doing developers justice by so often only buying them so deeply discounted, but on the other hand I don't have an unlimited budget.

And these days I also have a huge backlog. If I didn't I might be more inclined to pay more to get games...?

I formerly had a small habit of buying gift copies of games I enjoyed and giving them to friends. This was possible with Steam's gift inventory system, but that has since been disabled, so I've stopped.

But for this purpose, it was also useful to keep a second wishlist, one where I'd get notified if stuff went on sale, but for games that I already owned. I have a second account whose only function was this. It has not been used in a long time.
