Why?
To prevent people buying games with stolen credit cards, writing down the keys, issue a chargeback and selling the key on G2A and its ilk.
Either when you first start the game it will show it or go to your game library and right click the game and see if it has the option to show it or it won't show you it at all for most games.

If it was purchased from another site then it's that sites problem to provide you it.
So, if the game doesn't show the option to show its CD Key and there's no other way to view CD key? When I was looking for the CD key for my battfield 1, EA service provided it for me.
Well, I'm no trying to sell it. I just want to know.
I could be mistaken from reading this, but it seems that steam won't provide the cd of a non-digital copy of the game, at least judging from the portion stating to keep the key safe, which would indicate that very key won't be provided in steam itself. If you don't have the actual key that came with the package, or have it written down, then you have no proof of ownership. Again, i could be wrong, but that's what it seems like.
I bought this my game digitally throght steam... and if I recall my memory, I don't I received any cd key once I purchased it.
Ah ok, then that means the game simply may have not came with any extra cd keys. I don't have many games myself that provide the key, but again that is only with some of my games, not all.
