Shopping Cart Differs Depending on Web or Client Access to Store
I have the Steam client installed on my home PC, and at work I use a browser to view new games that I'd possibly like to buy (not allowed to install the client at work).
Sometimes at work (or even less often at home) I will put a game into the shopping cart and continue browsing games, and then get interrupted - and fail to actually purchase the game in my cart, and then later I'll go home.
When I log in at home with the client, the game which should be in my shopping cart does not appear - but if I go to work again the next day - there it is.
Why does the contents of my shopping cart depend on what platform I'm using at the time?
Login, account details, etc are (of course) identical.

Because the the shopping cart is not on your account. It's just on the webbrowser that's being used.

Send yourself a mail or something like that if you need a reminder.

They don't save through different devices. Browsers are considered different devices.

When I buy a game through the browser, it appears in the client as well.
When I post a message on a forum through the browser, it appears in the client as well.
When I add something to my 'Wishlist' through the browser, it appears in the client as well.
When I add a friend through the browser, they appear in the client as well.

So what's up with the shopping cart?

Those are account related and stored on the account and/or server.

A shopping cart is not. The cart is based on cookies and cookies are not transfered between two systems

If you would like the cart to progress between systems, then may I suggest the Suggestions/Ideas forum as it is for such suggestions/ideas for the Steam Client and services.

This is a good explanation of what I experience, and makes sense - thanks! I'll make a suggestion out of it.

That is garbage design and I've contacted Game Newell to complain about it.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
