Dell Precision T3610 workstation
I found a local company in my town last week that has in stock about 20 Dell Precision T3610 workstations for $150 dollars each. the price was right so I purchased it on the spot. I understand this is a pc built for crunching numbers and not gaming, however was assured that with a good gpu it would run most games at 1080 just fine. My question is, what GPU might you recommend considering this. Also, this pc is for my nephew who is turning 10 in a couple weeks and plays mostly steam games, so he probably won't need a high end card or anything too spendy. Also, would it take a high end gpu down the road if he wanted to upgrade? As you can see, I'm not a techy, so please go easy on me. lol Thank you.

USD 150 for THAT? You must have gotten the type wrong? That thing is not for crunching numbers but a powerhouse workstation meant for 3D rendering.

unless the owner of the company swapped some parts out, I'm pretty sure that is exactly what i purchased, a T3610 workstation

are you sure you have the model and price right, and not a typo?

because that for 150 sounds somewhat sketchy to me.

The case and the guts seem to be accurate according to pictures of the T3610's I've compared it with however, it did not come with a harddrive which the company was upfront about. In fact, none of the pc's they have for sale come with harddrives. He told me that he picked them up from a company that upgraded to all brand new equipment to tap their budget at fiscal year end. He said that the processor is a 6 core and comparable to an i7, and that he took 2 of them home for his kids and they run great with upgraded graphics cards and can handle any modern game at the hightest setting. In anycase, I haven't yet booted it up. Was gonna wait until i found a gpu and ssd for it to do that. But now you have me scratching my head.

Well, than either the model is burned out or it's a freaking steal.
The graphics card is a nvidia quadro. It's the same power level as a mid-level Geforce, but not optimized for DirectX/gaming. Depends on the exact model and the types of games you play if it needs a replacement. I have a M2000 in my work laptop and it's doing a pretty fine job.

You can always try it out yourself before gifting it away. ;)

Edit after seeing the above:
For 150 it's a damn fine base. If you are doing anything more than gaming, you might even consider using it yourself. Those things can be upgraded to beastly performances and Dell sells them with up to 128 GB RAM. Paired with the quadro that makes them perfect for high-performance non-timesensitve applications like video/3D rendering or extensive image manipulation. I'd call it an overkill for a 10yo.

Thats cool! Well, I'm gonna have to boot this puppy up and see if I got bamboozled. He's playing Team Fortress 2 on my pc right now, so I can't imagine I will need to upgrade the gpu for a while. And if this thing is better than my i5 6600k I may look at buying another. They had a T5610 for 200 dollars with a beefier cpu, but as I'm researching this topic I'm learning, more cores doesn't mean better gaming.

Here is a good video on that Quadro 600. Looks like it may actually fit my needs. Thanks man! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEnWh4hpaKA

you can definitely get a gtx 1060 into this thing, if you can get the power to the card hooked up.

Oh Zaphod honey, I love your character but this is a year-old thread and you didn't need to bump it.
