Does Steam have the worst gaming store possible?
New to Steam the past week and amazed at how poor of choice the quality of games there are in the store. Yes, there's an insane amount of games but the quality of them are shocking, am I looking in the wrong part of the store or is it better to buy from a different store?

Seems like Xbox and PSN have such a higher variety of quality games then PC does, so what are the bonuses of playing on PC?

If you only want AAA games, you're likely better off somewhere else. Valve operates a very open platform and that does mean you have to wade through some crap. It also means it has gems that might not be allowed on other platforms.

In some ways it's the Apple's walled garden vs Google's free range debate. Which one is best depends on what you value.

I couldn't help but notice your Dark Souls review:

"Not Recommended
1.3 hrs on record
Well Dark Souls... played for about 2 hours before I felt my soul being drained from my body. I like a challenge but man alive this game is in a league of its own, the bosses are insane and the gameplay just is not my style at all. If your in the mood for a smash the **** out off your PC then buy all means by this game.

Did not encounter any cheaters like many other people have stated but hey maybe I already reached the point of wanting to rip my eyes out before I found any.

Maybe I will return to this game sometime soon but feel like I have wasted £35 to be honest."

That you would buy Dark Souls and then get mad because it's challenging...I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or not. That's literally what Dark Souls is known for.

But hey, if you think Xbox and PSN don't release any crappy games then by all means, no one is making you use Steam.

PSN has games that are so bad they didn't make it onto steam and "exclusives" that are ports of old steam gmes that were ports of mobile games originally while xbox has a much smaller variety and only a handful of games that aren't on steam as well so you shouldn't hold them up as an example.

Just because those two shove the same few options under your nose constantly (usually because they have been paid to) while steam leaves everything out in the open apart from certain section based on your friends and your own history does not mean they have better systems.
It's simple the lack of any quality control in Steam Direct, that transfers the shop into asset flippers heaven, and makes the experience to buy something here similar to dumpster diving.

Quality control would mean more employees. That would cost more money. And that is the last thing, they will do.

So, yes, this is one of the worst shops regarding quality on this planet.

Nothing can change that. They don't even allow you to use restrictive filters for this dumpster. They can and will ignore your settings. Because they think it will lessen their profits. Not understanding, that ignoring their customers decisions will lead them to ignore their shop inventory as a whole.

I gave up on searching something useful here long ago, and buy most games elsewhere, using Steam only as download archive for games I bought from official 3rd party key sellers.

If you are looking for sales for legitimate keyseller, this is a good point to start:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/

They only promote legal sources of keys.

For a more specific search use https://isthereanydeal.com/. That helps, if you know what you are looking for. It only lists legitimate sources of keys, too.

I prefer legal sources, because I think it is important that the devs get their money for their games.

idk how to judge a store. Wonder if someone rates them?
Most games worth having that aren't console exclusive are on Steam. The problem you're seeing is that everything else is also on Steam.

You're probably looking in the wrong part of Steam, somehow. But I get that more, I see threads about crap games I didn't even know existed.

It's an open platform, so anybody can post their games. Some major publishers are less on Steam, for example EA.

You can't really compare the console stores with the PC store. On my consoles (360 and PS4) I usually play the AAA titles. Through Steam it's Indie games.

In the end it all depends what you look for in a store.
I get what your all saying about the store, its good feedback and an interesting read :)
Yes I’m trying to do a 2 step purchase 25 on my Wallet and $3 on my credit card… it’s impossible to do and it’s ridiculous something so simple everyone else has not available extremely inconvenient, because now I can’t buy this content because the tax is $1 over 25 so now I can’t purchase at all…
It's not clear what problem you encounter.

Steam defaults to using the money in your steam wallet.
If there not enough money in the wallet then you will be asked to choose a secondary payment method.
Here you can choose between credit card, paypal and a lot of other methods from a dropdown.
Did you seem any other stores? Probably not. So please dear sir go visit Nintendo store, that store is actually garbage or any AppStore for that matter.

So your complaint for necro this discussion because of tax that your government wants you to pay...

Steam does do two steps payment, the first page is Steam wallet automatically selected, and if you have not enter an address + name for Steam wallet before that what the page literally asking for, if need pictures I show you if you want, now the 2nd page it takes you afterwards is asking how you want to pay for the remaining amount using external payment such as credit card, or etc, hence it being two step payment process, as it to give people options to choose if they want to use their Steam wallet, or not, or with a 2nd payment method in same transaction.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
