Will steam ever deal with hostile, rude posters?
Just recently I posted a question on a game forum to which I received what i peceived two hostile replies so I replied in a hostile manner and I used a swear word to tell them to go forth and multiply from my thread.

It was my discussion thread after all and I hadn't gone to a discussion they had created and behaved in such a manner.

Granted it is never a good idea to be baited by these people but the people in question, having checked their posts, have a llitany of aggressive posts and numerous occasions of derogatory behavior and various bouts of swearing.

The irony is of course that I received an message from the game developer warning me that i would be banned from their forum if I persisted in using such language against their community members.

It took me all of 5 minutes to scroll through my personal offenders comments across the communities to see the evidence so why are these people not being dealt with?

What concerns me the most is that there is a clear pattern of bullying in some of these forums and threads.

Does anyone know if these matters have ever been referred to a governing body?

Apolagies if this is in the wrong forum; if it is can someone please re-direct me

Thank you.

Yep that happend to me today too
And saying I scam and I’m racist and that costed me a freind
There is no governing body, the developers can moderate their own forums as they see fit.
Don't engage.

As soon as someone starts being toxic on your thread don't engage send a report let the hubs developers and moderators take care of it, if you engage and be hostile back this will simply escalate the situation and make it worse for everyone.
Lol look at OP's post history. OP was the one being aggressive and swearing at others.

Holy hell. :steamfacepalm:
Wow that thread escalated real fast actually. Though I didn't see any real hostility until a certain poster up'd it to about 9. But yeah, it's usually best to take internet posters with a grain of salt.

I think a good handful of people should be posting about the OPs behaviour not the other way around. This would be the poster child of pot calling kettle black.
As far as I can see, the warning was justified. That thread had no deleted posts either, so it is all there to see.

You are not told if other actions were taken on another's account, so you can't say one way or another that nothing was done. For all anyone knows, more warnings were given out then just yours.

These are public forums and anything posted in them are open to the public. Someone can be the original poster of a thread, but no one owns the thread except Valve.

I've noticed that some developers like to keep the rabid fanboys around to defend them from criticism, no matter how horribly they act towards non-fanboys. It's easy to spot because you'll have one set of standards for everybody, but the fan-boys are not held to them. They're basically letting them get away with it so that they don't have to get their own hands dirty, but it's obvious what's going on if you think about it for longer than 5 seconds. It's just something that when you see, you just make a mental note of it and move on. There's really nothing you can do about it.
Yup

I'd assume people who were as mean-spirited as you were received the same warning.
It's not bullying just because you don't like it. And it's not not bullying just because you posted it.
On a lot of forums I seriously doubt all people are held to the same standard.
While I agree I did over react; it was born out of frustration from ANY post I have put up on steam receiving such negative input and they have just been questions. It seem some people get REALLY defensive when you question a game they like. Maybe I just live in a world surrounded by fluffy kittens and really nice people and I'm just not used to the negativity that hits you in the online world but it was only a simple question asking if the developers were looking into the problem. I wasn't asking for people to post remarks on my thread stating it was impossible for them to help as I hadn't provided the specs to my computer; that was not what the post was about.

I could address every post on here individually but really whats the point. The thing about the internet is it brings together people that in real life would have nothing to do with one another and there is probably a very good reason for that.

Its easy to type anything on here because you don't have to face the consequences of how you post something so I guess it is a good thing they are finally trying to regulate the internet; in the west at least.

1. Report

2. Ignore

3. Move on

The last 2 are very important.

The more you feed, the more he will come.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a fine example of why nothing gets better if everyone is just doing 2 and 3. Everyone should be held accountable for their remarks otherwise it justs creates a toxic environment.

The truth is you never know who has posted something or what is going on in their lives so everyone whenever they post something on someone elses thread should think a moment before they do it as who knows what impact it may have on their life.

Or you could just report the comments you don't like instead of engaging which then ensures that it's delt with without anyone overreacting or getting hurt as a result.

But you are still posting to that specific user after you report them. You are creating an issue and prolonging it. Letting that user know you are mad and thus giving him the need to come at you more cause he knows you will still reply and argue with him.

Don't feed the trolls.
