Really Steam? I have to wait 3 days to gift a friend..?
I added my friend 2 days ago since I knew she wanted a gift & wow.. I have to wait a extra day just to do anything at all. By that time the sell is over with & I won't be able to get her the thing she wanted unless it 's FULL priced (Not getting it) if that's the case.

Just a random rant. Ffs.

Blame the people who abused the system every way they possibly could, heavily, and for several years. They're the reason why we have all these restrictions on trading, payments, regions, the marketplace, and gifting. The people abusing steam for personal profit using fraud, scamming, hijacking, and other general douchebaggery at the expense of valve, developers, and other users, are the ones who made all this restrictive crap absolutely necessary.

And no matter what Valve does with Steam to stop these actions.. they will still carry on.. like aways..

Rinse - repeat.

The regulations get stricter.. and those that abused the system will just find another way to do so.

It doesn't mean leaving the door wide open is a good or even remotely sane idea. Of course there will always be some abuse, and this is inevitable and can never be stopped 100%, but it can be slowed down and curtailed significantly by implementing strategic restrictions, and that's what valve has done.
Users often fail to realise that if Valve didn't tackle this fraud it could have some serious repercussions, for example:

- Creditcards can't be used on Steam anymore, there are strict limits to how much fraud they are willing to allow
- Developers will stop using Steam

Leaving the door wide open is not only insane, it's poor business and a sure way to kill of Steam in no time. Users should realise that as long as the internet is a 'free for all' and especially criminals (with laws lagging behind due to the global form), there will be consequences for our actions. I say our, because often we are buying the cheapest game, even if that means using certain fraudulent resellers.

I haven't done this in a good while so it may not work anymore. But in the past you could buy the game and put it in your inventory. Then once your able to gift to your friend just send them the game as a gift from your inventory.

Gifting, sadly, was also changed due to the fraud.

I've had Steam for 12 years, when did this get added for fraud crap?? It only came up when my BIL tried to do Steam gifting, but didn't have either my partner or I, on Christmas. After he had a bad time with a store trying to charge extra for the physical cards.

Since the introduction of Steam Digital Gift Cards a few years ago the 3 day limit has been a thing.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
