Loaded Steam on another computer. None of my save games seem to have loaded .
Just installed Steam on my laptop and installed a bunch of games. Games I've been playing on my desktop. Steam lists the minutes I've played them, the accomplishments, etc. But when I load the games, I can only start a new game, not continue where I left off.

So for some reason, my game progress isn't being loaded, saved, or whatever the term should be. This is a total hassle since I am not planning on restarting any of these games.

Help is much appreciated thanks.

Both my computers are on Windows 10.

The game needs to support steam cloud for your saves to carry over. You can transfer your save files over to the other pc using a usb stick etc if you want.

Not all games support cloud saves which is the feature you would need for this to work.

Well, game save data is normally stored separately from the games themselves. Are these games which have uploaded their save files to the "Steam Cloud" or were they saved locally on the other machine?

Thanks all.

Is Steam cloud a feature that is supported by some games and not others, or a Steam setting done on a per-computer basis?

My saves on my home machine always seem to have been saving to the cloud AFAIK...there is always an indicator that the game is syncing when I close it. I presume it is syncing changes.

Also, I misstyped. One game- Sunless Sea, I was able to resume where I left off once I installed the same mods on my laptop as I have installed on my desktop.

Kinda both. The game must support it AND you must not have it deactivated for the game. And then you are still left at the mercy of developers to actually sync your save game instead of just profile data and settings.

And of course you need to be on the same account and not some second account family sharing setup.

yes, I'm on the same, and only , Steam account.

Alright then. Last question- do I have to manually enable cloud sync for each game? I'll have a look in the game settings to see, but that sounds a bit fussy and tedious. I would think that it would be enabled by default.

It usually is enabled by default--assuming that the game supports cloud sync in the first place. Not all games do, and it's possible that the ones you're dealing with don't have that feature. You'll have to check the game docs or the Steam store page.

If you view your steam library in "list view" then you can add a column for Steam Cloud, then you get a nice cloud icon for each game in that list.

Still, some games don't show there like the should sometimes so don't assume your saves are backed up.
If you want to to make sure your saves are backed up then use this: http://www.gamesave-manager.com/
Check if it finds all your games.
