Which are your favorite Visual Novels?
Excluding exceptions like Danganronpa and Phoenix Wright which are more gameplay-focused. There are alot of Visual Novels on Steam that look very similiar. Alot of them have an aesthetic that I like, but there aren't that many Visual Novel reviewers that I've been able to find so for the most part, I have to rely on screenshots/trailers on Steam, and Steam reviews for information on whether the story/characters are worthwhile. With games like Danganronpa, not only have they gotten alot more coverage to tell what the game has to offer, but there's more to Danganronpa than just story/characters that can be shown in trailers/screenshots.

Clannad and Steins;Gate are definitely up there in the top X lists. Fate-series is another good one.
If you want too look more into the Japanese Adventure genre (like Danganronpa - VNs with actual gameplay), the Nonary Games series is very solid.

That's coming from a guy who generally doesn't like the Anime style nor VNs that much.
I've never even heard of the Nonary Games, is that a studio or a series?

The trilogy is on Steam

Personally, I don't like the "Zero Escape" denominator that much. But "Nonary Game" is also a bit misleading in terms of story. ;)

It's kinda SAW story. A bunch of people get imprisoned and you have to solve room puzzles and make decisions to get them all out alive. Each decision branches the time line and you will have to experience them all to get the true ending and figure out what the ♥♥♥♥ is going on.
So gameplay-wise it's a mixture of choose-your-own-adventure and Myst with a dosis of time/dimension travel.
As said, it's by no means a Visual Novel. It's a full fledged example of Japanese Adventure games and as such it will take more comittment than pressing Enter to continue.

Is it very graphically gorey like the SAW movies are? I actually slowly watched the SAW movies because I was trying to train my body to be less squeemish to gore so I'm just asking if the comparison is being made when it comes to just theme, or the gore as well?

Higurashi When They Cry, and Umineko When They Cry

Don't let the MangaGamer sprites on the Steam Store page fool you.

Here's someone's selling speech on that:

Otherwise, as previously mentioned: Steins;Gate (and it's probably only a matter of time Steins;Gate 0 comes to Steam as well.)

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (containing 999 and Virtue's Last Reward [also mentioned above]) is good as well.

Thank you all for your elaborate comments. I actually noticed Danganronpa the other day.

Because it was suddenly bundled with Necrodancer (I'm a big fan of Roguelikes/Permadeath).

I've always skipped everything story related. But visual novels are clearly more interesting. :NONPLUSSED_CREEP:
