Sorry about my late response, I've been battling an illness but will hopefully be okay soon.
I have some questions that I want to ask, hope it's okay. Here goes:
That sounds like a good idea, but how do I do it?
(Sorry if I appear stupid but I have never done anything with Uplay that wasn't part of launching the games or accessing Uplay features in-game when I'm playing.)
When you have a Uplay update, what does it look like?
The reason I ask is that I can see the games are trying to install an update but I don't know if it's a Steam update (looks the same as a Steam update), then it quits around half way through while the game is in 'running' mode (meaning it says 'running' beside the game's name in my Library game menu), then the installation process disappears before it's complete and a little later the word 'running' disappears as well and the whole thing has stopped so I can start it all over again.

But I have mostly single-player games that don't get updates on UPlay but some of them do get updates on Steam that I update then launch through Steam after.
Have you ran UPlay first as Administrator and update before anything eles?
Also what game(s) are you trying to update and do you have them both on UPlay and Steam?
Also check your firewall rules and make sure UPlay is not being blocked and any AV software you have. This is prob the main cause why people can't update/install games, add UPlay to the exceptions list, if that doesn't work try turning off any AV (if you have them) and then update.
Somebody mentioned I could open Uplay first but I don't know how to do that.
I play almost only single player even though Ubisoft games usually have a lot of multiplayer stuff. I just don't participate in any of it.
I think what you say about getting Upay updates via the Steam Client, or at least immediately after the Steam Client updates, that's how it is for me too - or hsa been until now.
No I haven't. As I mention above I don't know how to open Uplay without launching the game via Steam first. But I always play my games as admin. That way I'm sure to not run into troubles about having to start over from admin settings.
So far I've tried all the Ubisoft games I have installed currently: Watch Dogs; Assassin's Creed Unity; Assassin's Creed III; Assassin's Creed: Rogue; Assassin's Creed: revelations; Far Cry 3; Far Cry 4.
I have all the other Assassin's Creed games too but they're not installed ATM.
I've checked my firewall and nothing hs been changed, deleted or blocked that hasn't always been routinely deleted and blocked...
Except for one thing: It says ActiveX controls are being blocked.
So far I've always been asked when a game or program wanted to download ActiveX, but mostly I've just been told to install it myself. - This is the first time I've seen ActiveX being blocked by my firewall and it's happened sometime within the last three weeks or so.
I wonder if this can have anything to do with Steam not launching my Ubisoft games?....I'm going to run a Google search and see if ActiveX is necessary for Ubisoft games to run.
Thank you for mentioning the firewall and thus bringing this to my attention.
Just load uplay from ubisoft. And run it.
"The procedure entry point_cef_parse_csscolor could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\upc.exe."
I have no idea what that means other than something important is missing. I haven't the faintest idea about what I can do about it....Maybe I can simply re-install Uplay altogether? I'll pay the Uplay website a visit and see what I can find out there.
---------------
Thanks to you guys who mentioned checking out Uplay - if it hasn't been for you I might never have thought of it and eventually found out how to check it out.
Do you recommend I go to the Uplay website and log in there before launching my games?
The reason why I've been happy with just launching via Steam is that I don't have to go thorough login procedures everytime.
Just use steam
I always use Steam and I bought Watch Dogs on Steam. That's why it was so odd that Uplay asked me to provide a CD key.
