Best open fantasy RPG?
Lately, in the last Sale, I´ve purchased nearly every single fantasy RPG that I found. I thought I had found home in NWN2, but the bugs and the poor atmosphere broke the deal for me.

However, the uniqueness and depth to character creation are unheard of by these ears of mine. I´m looking for something that´s roughly as open as Oblivion, and that has as deep a character creator as a D&D game. And not exclusively isometric, if possible. So far, only Spellforce 2 and the original NWN come to mind as contenders.

I own Dragon´s Dogma, Gothic 3, Titan something 3 (pirates-fantasy RPG, omg), Titan Quest, Sacred, and whatnot. And each of them falls short for its own reason, damnit.

Isn´t there simply a decent open world D&Dish RPG with decent graphics, or am I going to have to settle with Dragon Age -- which I find to be too lineal -- knowing the sequels have this abysmal reviews?

Let me know yerr opinions, folks!

It's basically what you want and the saviour of fans of this genre as far as I have heard.
I should play it more..

Divinity franchise is some to look up. Varying style on them.

is the closest to those you mentioned above. The originals (Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity) are older and isometric while the Original Sin series is a modern "top-down" (fully 3D but best played in a camera angle similar to isometric) game.

If you like character customisation beyond cosmetics, D&D doesn't hold a candle to The Dark Eye:

There is the Drakensang franchise, though also played best top-down.
Then there is Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny

though it has been poorly received.
Part two is currently in Early Access

Those two are remakes and the originals are also on Steam

Beware, they are from the 90s. First Person View with isometric combat.

Speaking of old games come to new live, there is also Might & Magic X

And if you want to go completely retro there is Arcanum

One of the best RPGs I've played.

Well, and talking about D&D there are of course the classic Infinity Engine games:
- Baldur's Gate
- Icewind Dale
- Planescape: Torment

You you don't mind reading , do yourself a favour and play PS:T one day. It's not on Steam, but GOG, though. They are not really open world, but the hubs are huge and they are full of things to do, so you won't mind.
